well, they need to be a cardinal to be a candidate for the pope, and it takes a long time to get into that position..

although the last pope was fairly young when he was elected... that was 24 years ago

i don't like him. the church i think needs change, not fast change coz that would stuff it right up, but a gradual modernisation. to me, and this is from someone who knows next to nothing about the whole situation, this new pope seems the kind of guy that would move things backwards rather than forwards. being traditional can be a good thing, but clinging to them when change is needed and a better option for the population, not just the ones that follow his faith, as a whole is not good.

It's because his name is Benedict, and you can have Eggs Benedict, therefore "Eggs".
