If you haven't seen or heard of Heroes, find out about it now!! It's a fantastic show!! I love Hiro Nakamura, he's so cute!! And he travels through time! ^___^

I do remember someone telling me that you can get free-range chickens or something like that, but I've never seen it myself. I'm vegetarian whenever it makes a difference (i.e. if we're going to buy 1 x chicken whether I eat any or not then I may as well eat it instead of being awkward); so I've never looked for free range meat. If you want to be on the safe side, I'd suggest getting Halal meat because you can be sure that it's killed humanely (but I hear it can be expensive).

I think i've seen that about chicken. I'll have to double-check. But i'd also like to see if there's anything in place for red meat too.

And i so respect you for living like that. It can't be easy to do. I don't usually eat a lot of red meat when i'm living alone, but i always end up terribly aneamic because of it >.>

See my response below to smearing to see my views about Halal meat ^^

I guess it really depends on what you portray as humanly .-. If killing an animal humanly is to slit its throat, then you should look for Halal meat (but you wouldn't find any Halal pig!meat)... if that's not humanly, then I cannot help you >:

And Heroes~~ I've been meaning to buy the DVD sets, but they're expensive D: Any shared fangirling will have to wait, but I'm certain mbc4 is going to be airing it soon! :D

I personally think something is more humane the quicker it is done, and the more respectful. I mean, technically, you could probably kill livestock by clobbering them over the head with a club, but that's just unnecessarily cruel and undignified.

But, as daft as it sounds, i'm not even sure what the guy meant when he said there were more humane ways than what i described below. I was hoping nisou and yami_tai would know if there was anything in place in the UK to inform people, like they do about the conditions that chicken eggs are gathered in ( ... )

Actually, you're correct; Halal meat is prepared to be pure by draining all the blood, but I think it's also the most humane way of killing animals. Fortunately, I'm not aware of all the techniques used to get the job done, but when I think of strangulation, electrocution or that process of forcing air into an animal's body as to not mess up the fur, I realize that throat-slitting might be quicker and more merciful.

I understand what you're saying~~ though. I've watched a documentary about the conditions pigs and chickens live in before being killed for their meat and it made me sick to my stomach. True, they are going to eventually end up on someone's plate, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be treated humanly before their last moments :|

I don't think that that is really addressed in our supermarkets; if it is, I haven't noticed it. I mean when you buy meat it is so far removed from looking like the animal it came from, I really don't think most of us give a lot of thought to how it was slaughtered, myself included. I like to think that the animals are sufficiently stunned so that they are not really aware of what is happening to them. I agree with you about halal meat though, because the animal isn't even stunned, and I can't imagine having your throat slit is an easy death; however, I realise that it is required to meet religious needs.
