He knew he was going to die. Danny had no idea how long he had been buried and soon it wouldn't matter anymore. It was pitch black; the only sound was of his ragged breathing.
From what he could tell, his leg was broken; everytime he tried to move it, fire would race up and down the limb, causing him to gasp at its intensity. And yet, he was glad of the pain. It reminded him that he was still alive.
Every other part of him was pinned down by rocks; from what he could feel, before his arms and other leg became numb from being forced to stay in the same posistion for so long.
In the times Danny was conscience, he thought about his family and wondered if they were alright. He had no memory of how he got into this predictament but he hoped to get some answers when he got out. If he got out.
He had given up on "Going Ghost." The pain from his leg kept breaking his concentration. That and he never realized how he tensed his body prior to transformaing; which disagreed strongly with his injury.
'Any moment, my friends will find me.' he thought determindly. It was the only hope he had left. And it was the only light he had to keep the darkness from consuming him completely. And so he waited. And waited.
Then there was another light. Danny thought it was an illusion. It was bright and it drew him forward. An angel appeared to him in his half-conscience state; her face was obscured in light. The touch of her hand took all the weight away from his body and he just laid there, staring in awe.
Her hand stretched out, patiently waiting. Danny shook his head in disbelief. He wasn't ready to leave. He still had things to do, people to protect.
"I-I can't... I can't die. There's-" The angel gently quieted him with a finger across his mouth. He had a feeling she was smiling, even thought he couldn't see past that light surrounding her. She took his hand.
"No, you don't understand." Danny said, the panic evident in his voice. He tried pulling his hand away but it didn't budge as if she were as strong and as solid as stone. "Let me go!" he cried as he pulled even harder and more insistant to no avail.
In response, the angel smiled and dragged Danny effortlessly towards the light.
"NOOO!!!" Danny screamed as the light enveloped him.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Danny groaned as he became aware of the world around him. His body felt so stiff. Stretching, a flash of pain shocked a gasp from his mouth. Confused he opened his eyes.
An unfamiliar room, filled with machines. A hospital room. How did he end up here? His vision was blurry from the sudden light and he tried rubbing the discomfort from his eyes when Danny was aware of someone standing before his bed.
It was the angel from before. Before? A snip of memory from being trapped under rocks and the light flashed inside Danny's head. A chilling thought came to him; was he dead? He pinched himself and it did hurt.
"Ow. I'm... alive? But I thought..." Danny's gaze drifted to his leg and the cast covering it in the brace at the end of his bed. Confused, he returned his attention, to the being of light.
"Danny?" he blinked at the sound of her voice as the figure advanced and he realized that it wasn't an angel. Her purple eyes were moist and her face was red as if she had been crying for a while.
"Sam. It was you?" he asked as she sat down beside him.
"Danny," Same's eyes became angry. "If you ever do that again, I swear I'll kill you."
"What did I do?" A stray memory drifted by and Danny saw himself fighting, of Sam's face and himself straining to reach her with all his strength. "I was fighting..." She nodded and tears threatened to spill once more.
"It got out of hand and damaged a building." Sam bit her lip as she continued. "I was there and you saved me."
"Was anyone hurt? Are you okay?" Danny asked, worried. Sam wiped the rest of her tears from her face, shaking her head.
"I'm fine! Why do you always have to be so selfish?" she yelled, her anger getting the better of her. Startled, Danny just blinked. "How do you think we would've felt if... if..." Collapsing into herself, Sam cried. Pushing up against the bed, he hugged her.
'I could've died.' he thought as he continued to hold her as she released all of her stress. "I'm sorry Sam." She pulled away enough for him to see the pain in her eyes.
"If you had died..." He hushed her.
"I'm not going anywhere, got it?"
And she smiled.
