A while ago i was working on an intern job and it looked like i was going to get it until i got a phone call telling me that they didn't have enough funding. About the freshman 15... I know what exactly how you feel. Not that I'm a freshman, but it's still my first year at UCSC. Oddly enough, what has helped me has been my broken leg! Walking on crutches uses a lot more energy than walking, so the weight I put on over the winter quarter has mostly burned off. Not that I'm suggesting you go and break your leg just to lose weight ;) But seriously, just increase you amount of excerisze and don't think that eating less is always a good thing- what you eat is more important than how much you eat. Btw, swimming is one of the best workouts (and easy on the knees).
