Brokeback Mountain: a story review.

This is chock-full of spoilers for the story. Haven't seen the movie. There are footnotes, because I like footnotes. This is also long, and possibly boring. I took too many lit-crit courses in college, and what's worse, I enjoyed them. This is the result.

Very good book report. You get an A. I particularly liked the footnote action. Footnotes rule ( ... )

Just want to reinforce what khylarenelf said. If you haven't seent he movie yet, I say it's highly worth your while. It cirrect many (although certainly not all, such as the jarring of the flashback) the inadequacies you find in Proulx's story, plus fleshes out the holes you see in Proulx's characterization. This is one instance where the movie outdid itself, and even the screenplay often reads better than the story, though the story is beautiful in its own way. However, in the movie, you lose the documentary feel entirely, and you feel the characters full-froce. It can be scarey, for me actually. I saw the move in February an I still haven't gotten over Jack's death because he seems rather like a family member to me. He seemed it after just one showing.
