Happy Mother's Day

May 09, 2010 09:57

Since it happened to fall on a Sunday, I'm spending my first official Mother's Day at home alone with a cranky baby while my husband plays airsoft with the single guys. And then, because he was just switched to midshift, he'll need to nap when he gets home before going into work tonight.

suck.

So, it's his dad's fault, apparently. Mother's day was just a normal day in his house. then again, far as I can tell, the kids never cleaned anything but their own rooms, either, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. That poor lady did everything.

my childhood mother's days, by contrast, were way different than any other day of the year, except maybe Mom's birthday. Mom got to stay in bed until she felt like getting up, which meant dad was watching us until then--a fairly uncommon occurrence, really. when she did get up, dad had a specially prepared cup of coffee waiting for her while he started something special for breakfast (how big depended on whether we had plans to go out with "the grammies" afterward for brunch). Mom didn't clean or cook or get her own drinks all day. I'm sure cass and I didn't usually make it through the whole day without bothering her unduly, but we tried.

Corey currently has 2 lives he is living right now and they don't talk to each other too much. On special days like this he should put his home life first but he's still young and has a different P.O.V. on the day. Last year the two of you probably didn't celebrate mother's or father's day for each other, but were very excited about the prospect.

This is a perfect opportunity to get together with him and discuss what you both want for your holiday celebrations.
