"Butch"

I am always trying to explain to people what I mean when I say I'm attracted to "butch" women. That's the best word I have to describe it - that particular characteristic I fall for, the strength, self-assurance, aggressiveness that comes with restraint - it's not just short hair or body type or self-confidence.

I love that article.

(And am ridiculously attracted to Rachel Maddow, but I feel kind of guilty about that in a weird way! Because she is Breaking Down Barriers and Revolutionizing Television and what if I am objectifying her or something? Oh, patriarchy, you are confusing.)

Me too!

(OMG I KNOW! On the one hand, I can't be objectifying her, because I am appreciating her sense of humor and her intelligence and her eloquence, but on the other hand damn she is hot. FEMINISM I HOPE IT IS OKAY THAT I FIND LADIES HOT.)

Hmm. I could be wrong, but after having seen Dani on A Shot At Love, and seeing the attraction even though I prefer people with penises, I think I know what you mean by "butch ( ... )

"Butch" and "femme" both have a lot of different connotations, depending on the context, but I think butch, especially, can be applied to to just about anyone.

The exact walk, set of the shoulders, dominant/protective body language, etc.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!! I also think it's really interesting that you and I are attracted to the same gender, but different sexes. Clearly, labels like het/bi/homosexual don't cover everything!

To your random thought of the day: I think that is TOTALLY the case! Awesome connection.

I think you're right, but sometimes I stop and check myself to make sure I am not objectifying.

What a funny thought - that there could be a thing like gender orientation existing separately from sexual orientation. But it kind of makes sense. Is there already literature about this concept?

Also, I appear to have discovered yet another way in which I am completely cisgendered. Oh, sexuality.

Oh, and why isn't "femme" applicable to everyone the way "butch" is?
