Am I the only one who thinks "Flag Day" is a pointless day?

Every time there is a holiday, the good people of Ferndale line Main Street (the street I must drive down to get to work) with what must be about 200 American flags.  Yep, they really like their American flags here.  It seems very strange to me.  How many flags do we need here?  What if we traded all the normal-sized flags for one HUGE flag? I think we may be on the same boat here. I may possible be a bit more extreme than you though.

I understand that the American flag is our "symbol". But I also believe that it's just some thread that makes a design. I get highly irritated at the mentality that doing anything to the flag is morally (and I think legally) a crime. It's a piece of cloth!

I think anyone should have the right to "let it touch the ground" or "burn it". If we put so much energy into preserving a material object, then I think this nation truly is doomed. We should focus more on the people themselves and not an object.

Okay, I'm going to stop now before I get more aggro and blab on.

Either way, yeah it's a stupid holiday.

I do agree with you on that. Though I'm pretty sure the act of defacing the flag is protected by the first ammendment, there have been attempts by the government to change that. No, it's not like they have more important things to worry about or anything. Stupid politicians.
