Jordan in the cross ties Originally uploaded by

on saturday i received an early birthday gift from dp. i was so surprised, thrilled, and grateful that i'm still afraid to wake up from this marvellous dream -- even though dp keeps assuring me that i'm awake already.
he bought me jordan: the horse that i've been mooning over for the last three months. not only did he buy the horse for me, he surprised me with the presentation.
i went to the barn on saturday morning to get ready for my lesson. as i parked my bike beside the indoor arena, andy told me that my horse was "in there", indicating the new barn. i didn't really think anything of it, despite the fact that the lesson horses are usually kept and saddled in the old barn. so, i went in to the new barn. i was greeted by the sight of jordan standing alone in the cross ties with a big blue banner/ribbon around his neck that said "happy birthday liz". not only that, but my entire riding group -- anne, lynn, christina, and joyce -- along with dp, elaine, and andy where shouting "happy birthday!" i didn't realize it at the time, but dear
ruralrob was there too, taking photos.
i burst into tears, ran over to dp and hugged and kissed him fiercely. then i ran over to jordan and look with wonder at him. for 41 years i had been yearning for a horse of my own, and now i had one. not only that, i had one who was already dear to me. i haven't really stopped crying since. every time i think about the events of the day my eyes well up again.
the potluck that was to take place after the lesson was actually a birthday party for me. so, surrounded by friends and accompanied by my dp, i had what was probably the best birthday of my life.
