Random Thoughts in the order in which they come.

*I got a phone call about a job opportunity this morning, did a short little phone interview, and got my rejection e-mail a few hours later. That's what I like: efficiency in failure. The state, on the other hand, has kept me in the dark for over 3 weeks after promising that all candidates would be notified in about two ( Read more... )

Dude, I think I'm going to try an experiment this Baseball season and actually watch some of it on television. You would think I would be a fan after growing up playing so much of it. So, any pointers on how to go about doing it? Should I pick a team and follow them? A league? How does one go about becoming a well-rounded, somewhat informed fan?

I know. I know. Its like one of Hemingway's characters. How can one be a fan if you don't have the passion? How can you be an afficianado if you come to it intellectually and as an outsider?

Is it anything like watching wrestling?

Haha. I would think it is much easier than watching wrestling. Perhaps you should start by watching some baseball movies, maybe some Field of Dreams, the Natural, Major League (my personal favorite), or something to get you in the mood. You're definitely going to have to pick a team. The Braves are the obvious choice and all of their games can be seen locally. Though, if you like history, the Cubs, Red Sox, or Yankees would be great choices. There is a Sunday night game of the week on ESPN that features different teams each week, and a nightly highlight show called Baseball Tonight. This ought to get you started on the path to increasing your status as a Renaissance man. Then again, you could be lazy and just read up on ESPN.com or yahoo sports. Darn internet.
