Hitchens wants to get rid of hope and comfort

I read an article today and I'd like to share it....then I'd like to share my reply to it. Please read below if you wish to do so. Share this with others....or respond to it or my response. Whatever you do is fine but please, have the decency to realize that compassion and understanding are two words that are rarely understood in this world today.

I wouldn't like the military to get rid of Chaplains! So, I'll talk about something else which is...kind of...I guess...related to what this is about.

From the article:

The guidelines were imposed after the disclosure in 2004 of an atmosphere of religious coercion at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. It was asserted by staff members, alumni, and cadets of the academy that evangelical propagandists were harassing agnostic and Jewish cadets and insisting that only those who accepted Jesus as a personal savior were fit to serve.

This sounds possible. Very possible.

James Madison said:

Better also to disarm in the same way, the precedent of Chaplainships for the army and navy, than erect them into a political authority in matters of religion. … Look thro' the armies & navies of the world, and say whether in the appointment of their ministers of religion, the spiritual interest of their flocks or the temporal interest of the Shepherds, be most in view.
Once again, I find myself in complete agreement with James Madison ( ... )

I meant I agree with James Madison on this part:

Look thro' the armies & navies of the world, and say whether in the appointment of their ministers of religion, the spiritual interest of their flocks or the temporal interest of the Shepherds, be most in view.

I agree in the sense that spiritual leaders seem to be looking out for themselves and their interests. And...uh...not the flocks interest.

How could I botch that part so bad?!

Actually Separation of Church and State was set in place to make sure that State would stay out of Church affairs. (I can't remember the details but everyone always think it was to keep Church out of State affairs ( ... )
