 What Novel would people recommend for me to take travelling with me to last a month

Not thrillers, I think I'll be scared enough about walking around in the dark over there without that helping up my nervometer =p

If you're looking for really thick paperbacks, I'd recommend:
- A Song of Ice and Fire (first book A Game of Thrones). Politics-heavy grey-morality high fantasy. Dia'll back me up on this one.
- Count of Monte Cristo. Okay, so I haven't actually read it yet - it's sitting on my bookshelf waiting for summer - but several of my friends count it among their favorite books of all time. Just make sure you get unabridged.

Sigh, the only reading I manage to sneak in during school these days are thin YA books and graphic novels.

lol The only issue with the first novel of ASOIAF is I've already read it. The second book is sat there waiting to be read, and I keep looking at it wondering...

You should read the second book because then you can read the third book, and I quite like the third book. :D
