As a fellow burgeoning failure, I'll say you're spot-on with absolutely NO authority on the matter of insanity. Integrity vs. despair is actually a huge issue for those nearing 80 years of age. What I don't understand is how being married decreases your risk of going mad.

And thank you. For that last entry. It made me feel less alone.
