bike buying

I want a bike. How does one go about picking out a bike? How do I know what will work for me and what won't? How do I figure out what will fit me? Anything I should know or might not in my very inexperienced bike mind think about?

I will (hopefully) predominately use it for going to/from campus (so road and bike path traveling).

I am no expert on road biking as my knee will tell you, however, I have friends and a brother who are. I'll pass along your query and let you know what I find out. :)

Best local advice? Go to Budget Bikes. They have a used store, and a new store, and alot of experts that you can ask! Go to the used bike store first, describe your needs, and they'll help you out! Best part? You can take them all on test drives.
