But what if "Ughnn" really means "I had such a fabulous day today. After I invented fire, I was able to procure some meat while foraging. I think we can cook this meat over the fire. Wow we can feast well and survive the winter!"

Oh, if the intent is to convey actual ideas of importance and relevance, then the advancement of language is fantastic. Those are the times where progressing past grunts and wild gestures is necessary, as well as lovely. I'm not saying cavemen had nothing to say - it's just that when someone doesn't have something to say, why pretend to be more than a caveman at that point?
