Ibiki had gone very soft on her. The head of T&I -- Kakashi had worked with him for years. Knew him well, as well as his methods.
Konoha's interrogation methods were hardly this gentle. This must've been more a matter of procedure and formalities than actual intent to interrogate.
But all of this --
Anko didn't deserve any of it. ]
Ibiki went easy on you.
[ This is what he says.
This is what he doesnt: I don't think he really wanted to do it. ]

We've all had a difficult time of things, Hakkai-san.
[ It's abrupt, she knows, and kind of nasty, but that's how she feels: abrupt and nasty. She doesn't know how to face Hakkai when he's like this--kind for no reason, and it makes her feel off-balance. Off-balance is out of control, and Anko (so good at losing control) doesn't like it.
She doesn't know how to say if I act like it's nothing, it is nothing. Please don't make it something. ]

True, but it is Anko-san I'm currently addressing and concerned for. [ There's steel beneath that gentle voice, that's for certain. He's saying 'I won't be bullied, I won't ignore this, I won't be moved.' ]
You know where to find me. I'd still like to make you dinner sometime.

...That might be nice.
[ Her eyes are averted, and she speaks softly. She doesn't want to go, though. She's a little wary of Hakkai now. He's too good at opening her up, too nice, too soft-spoken, too easy to talk to, to be weak in front of. ]
[ None of this seems at all fair. Sakura understands the security risks that were involved and, in an academic sense, understands why they would be suspicious of a student of Orochimaru's. But the scratch marks on Anko's skin just over the curse seal, an obvious, desperate, ugly attempt make it go away - that image lingers, settling like a rock in Sakura's gut. ]

[ Anko sighs. ]
He was... We were friendly, before. After that, we managed to forgive each other.

[He turns thoughtful for a moment.]
Oh, so it was you.
You were his favorite, you know.
[Distaste settles on his features.]
He spoke of you often.

[The disgust is visible on his face again.]
He was very descriptive.

[ She actually tells him this aloud. The irony is lost on her for a couple days. ]

...If there's any other way I can help, please let me know. It seems you've had a difficult time of things.

They shouldn't have treated you like that.

It's procedure. It's logical.
[ They're words she's heard, words she's used for a long time to cover up the hurt. ]
Ibiki and I are friends, Sakura.

[ That doesn't make it right. ]
... It's good that the two of you worked it out.

[ Avoiding the whole issue, really. ]
