So, I found this quite amusing. It seems that even though I haven't updated my journal in a very long time, I have still managed to be "un-friended" by a former classmate of mine on lj

lol. wow from just describing her/reading your entry. i assumed it was tiff. by the way..."drop bombs, not bush" is most definitely more radical than "drop bush, not bombs"
this "friends-only" business is so weird. it's like, talking behind someone's back, without actually talking.
Still amazed over the fact that you've posted! :-)
Too tired to come up with anything halfway intelligent about politics right now, but I may come back and say something in the future. How is everything?
Yup, nothing like politics to divide people. It's funny, but everyone wants the same thing, they just disagree on how to get there, which always slows down any rate of progress.
I hope that whatever scuttle may have started (will read it once I get home), will not deter you from posting more in the future. :-)
What about your whole, "don't label me" icon? I would assume it implies accepting different people, and the real differences between people are their views, not their appearance.
So, it seems a bit hypocritical. People will disagree with you even in Berkeley, the hub of liberalism if there ever was one.
You seem to be of the mindset that everyone who isn't just as anti-Bush and pro-left as you are is wrong. But in my opinion, that's even worse than being-gasp-conservative.
Of course, that is the general mindset of Berkeley as a whole, which explains why someone with more moderate or even conservative politics would feel a bit oppressed there. You'll fit in quite well though, so bravo on that. I just wish it were as easy for everyone else.
DISCLAIMER: IT IS 3:30 AM. SO SORRY IF THIS DOES NOT MAKE PERFECT SENSE
Okay, im not quite sure if i understand your comment as a whole, so I am going to try to answer it in parts.
About my icon, yes, I do accept different people, those with different views and appearances. And yes, I realize people might disagree with me even at Berkeley. However, you seemed to have missed my point.
My comment to this person was not "i dont like/accept you cause your conservative." My point was that finding a sign that says "drop bush not bombs" on a Berkeley campus should not shock anyone. Moreover, i shall agree with and say that "drop bush, not bombs" is a much more powerful/worse statement than the previous one and is definitely not something that the majority of Berkeley or California supports. That was my point. I was simply expressing my confusion as to why this person seemed so put off/surprised by this sign considering its location

awww, i went to her lj to see the comments and they were deleted
anyway...i just wanted to say that in the year i spent at berkeley...i've met more conservatives than i have in my whole life
i think UC Berkeley is not really liberal...it's just really diverse. you'll see just as many republicans and anti-abortionists as you do their counterparts. but generally...the student population is just plain apathetic. most of us don't give a fuck...we just want them to get out of our face with their stupid fucking flyers so we can get to class

p.s. I still read your journal even if I never post in mine. So no worries. My "lj-friends" aren't being neglected as much as my journal is.
