Open up you image. I'll be using THIS kitten stock image.
Crop & Resize.
LAYER >> NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> HUE/SATURATION/LIGHTNESS
Saturation Settings
Master; 0
Reds; 45
Yellows; 20
Greens; 30
Cyans; 13
Blues; 50
Magenta; 0
LAYER >> NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> CURVES
Click so you have a new point.
Input; 70 Output; 187
Merge all.
ADJUST >> SHARPNESS >> UNSHARP MASK
Radius: 2.00
Strength: 12
Clipping: 0
& make sure luminance only is CHECKED.
Keep in mind that depending on your base, your icon will turn out different & may require different settings.
