Madrigal went pretty well for me. I didn’t have any stupendous successes or grandiose highlights, but nothing really went wrong for me either. The event was a pretty steady flow of small wins and pleasant experiences. If all my events end up going so well I would be completely happy.
The drive up was about the only unpleasant part, and it really wasn’t all that bad. As noted elsewhere
bakeneko and
miribella drove up to my place Friday morning and slept for a brief bit before I drove them the rest of the way to the site. They actually arrived, came in, went to bed and went to sleep all while I was in the shower. When I got out of the shower and realized they were there when one of them sneezed (possibly preventing a very awkward moment) I opted to let them sleep in a bit before we left. That meant we hit a lot more traffic than normal coming through the lower half of Connecticut. But we got to the site in plenty of time to get ready for the game.
I did a fair job getting my props prepared for this event. I managed to complete one prop for a player which turned out very well, and I finally convinced another to let me give her some real bones to replace he poor ancestors where got crushed by a Honda. I completed a nice costume prop for monster camp which I thought looked really nice, but ended up not being precisely what plot wanted. Luckily the mod it was for didn’t run so I get a second chance to make a replacement for the next event. I also had plans for a prop for myself that ended up not getting made, but it would have been fairly bulky and we wouldn’t have had room for it in the car anyway.
By in large I did fairly well in most of the fights and battles. I did a bit more melee and archery fighting this event than I normally do. I could tell that I’ve been NPC’ing all summer long because a couple of times in the big field fights I got in trouble by not paying close attention to my surroundings. All it takes is a brief little bit of NPC’ing to complete ruin my survival instincts.
I’ve decided that I really like using my bow in field fights. Since I don’t have any called damage skills for it I don’t do a whole lot of damage. But that also means I don’t need to worry much about saving my shoots, or wasting stats, or what defenses a monster might have. Basically I have fun just running around trying to peg people with packets. I could really care less whether it makes them fall down or not, I get my thrill just from hitting the target.
In terms of town plots I was really happy for other people to see both the Lord of Pyres plot line and the Fountain of Ice plot line reach some sort of conclusion. Both plots had really run their course I think and people were ready to move on. Both ended in a suitably epic and challenging battle with nifty effects and NPC’s, so I happy with the way they wrapped up and I’m looking forward to some new challenges now.
I made some more incremental progress on the small bit of semi-personal plot that I have been slowly working on for a while now. I had told several people before the event that I needed to find some way to connect what I was doing to other people’s stuff, or else find some way to bring other people into what I was doing. It has been nice having this small private project to work on, but I knew that if I didn’t get a few other people involved in some way it was going to get increasingly hard for plot to assign resources to the plot. Conveniently, when I got a text prop as a response to my latest effort it had another player’s name plastered all over it. I’m still haven’t trouble figuring out where all of this is going to eventually lead me, but at least the next few steps are somewhat clear.
There was something of a sigh of relief from me when I ended this event because it meant I had managed to survive a revel and three full events while being under the tower. The last thing I did this weekend was to craft a dream to send to The Goblin King letting him know that I need to go to the Well of Souls next event. I have no idea at all what to expect in this regard, but I’m mostly just glad that I managed to make it to this point so that I have a shot at getting this taken care of.
