Today is fourth anniversary of the big event which was the finale of a large long running national plotline in NERO. A number of people from several NERO chapters up and down the east coast worked together on this plot. After it was over an artist was commissioned to create a large group portrait of all those characters, and it was given as a wedding gift to one of the guys who ran the plot.
I posted a copy of that picture on my Livejournal back then and invited people to guess who all the people were in the picture. Recently I went back to look at that picture and got to thinking about how all those characters have spread out and gone their different ways since then.
So here, as best as I know and can find out, is what has happened to this merry bunch since that fateful day in the snowy wastes of faraway Tarsa.
1. Zerr Trellious
Not too long after this event the player of Zerr moved to Minnesota. He played some local NERO there but used other characters besides Zerr. He also got involved in some other LARP systems. He later relocated again to Florida. He has remained in contact with most of his NERO friends and it wouldn’t surprise me if Zerr didn’t show up again one day.
2. Milo
Milo’s player currently lives not to far from me. He keeps tab on what is going on in the NERO world but hasn’t really played to any appreciable degree since this time of the national event.
3. T’Kari Intunecous, Champion of the Gypsies
The National Event Final was T’Kari’s swansong. He retired the character, but then began playing him again in the Mirror Mirror LARP. The theme and design of that game let's people to use dead or retire characters from other games
4. Adrafae Serdanhia, Champion of the Kyralia of Meadowbrook
Adrafae returned to Blackstone (VALOR chapter in VA) and worked her way up to Ducal Knight. When VALOR went on hiatus she moved over to adventuring mainly in Therendry (METRO chapter in VA). She also took the occasional trips to Volta and Fengate. When METRO and VALOR closed down the character went into limbo. The player is considering bringing her to the Mirror Mirror setting.
5. Aelfric
Last I saw of him he was campaigning in Volta and Myanthea. I’m uncertain if this character is still active in NERO or not.
6. Omi, Champion of the Unicorns of the Heart
Omi continued to play in NERO at a few chapters, mostly Volta and Myanthea. With the closing of those two campaigns she transitioned her character to Mirror Mirror.
7. Tovolia Aberdeen, Champion of the Sessuar
Tovolia continued to play NERO for some time, though like Adrafae his time was greatly shortened by the closing of the Virginia chapters. He has been elevated in Therendry to a full Ducal Knight. He staffed that chapter a lot when it ran, and that also cut a lot into Tovolia's playing time. He has made infrequent trips to New England and North Carolina chapters as well. The player is currently considering resurrecting the METRO chapter, and if that happens I’m unsure what he will do with Tovolia.
8. Duncan Abercrombie
Duncan managed to get himself promoted to Baron in Blackstone shortly after the National final. He adventured locally at the VALOR chapter for about another year and a half before that chapter went on hiatus. He has been sitting on the shelf ever since other than a brief appearance at a national event in 2013. I haven’t retired him, but I don’t know when he will next see the light of day.
9. Fayden
Fayden still plays in the NERO campaign setting from time to time. Last I heard she was hanging out with some other Therendry characters when they went and visited another chapter. Her player is also now playing an alternate version of the Fayden character in the Mirror Mirror setting. Part of the Oraban plotline involved the players interacting with future versions of themselves from an alternate future where the world has gone terribly wrong. The Mirror Mirror version of Fayden comes from that future.
10. Shoshoto, Champion of Niman
Shoshoto continued to play an active part in New England NERO primarily in the Volta campaign. At the final event of that campaign he permanently died in a dramatic fashion.
11. Rillien Nol’Feredir, Champion of Lake Hollym
Rillien played for a short time after this event in Volta but then retired the character to pursue other pursuits. She has made one or two short appearances since then.
12. Jayson Askani, Champion of Quentari
Jayson became very active in the Myanthea campaign, where he was the General. When that campaign drew to a close he also jumped to Mirror Mirror.
13. Lilaiethin
Liliaiethin retired after the National Event and so far has remained retired as far as I know.
14. Briar (Ereglinn)
Ereglinn died as part of the plot of the National Event final. Since that time Trivanus worked to come up with a plan to restore her to life. This happened at a Myanthea event and now Ereglinn (or some facsimile of) walks among us again. She continues to play sporadically in the NERO setting.
15. Trivanus Nolevanwa, Champion of Tarsa
Trivanus continued his noble career in Therendry after the National Event and rose to the rank of Count. He also remained involved with events in Volta and Myanthea until those campaigns closed. With those two campaigns closing and the Virginia NERO chapters on hiatus he is looking at some lean times. He still shows up every once in a while at odd chapters, and he is in the process of pursuing a position in a principality, and is the Royal Wizard of Evendarr. His player is also playing an alternate version of Trivanus in the Mirror Mirror campaign.
16. Syndil
Syndil was not very active in NERO after the National event. I’m unsure what she is up to these days.
17. Anyasha
Anyasha spent most of her time after the Oraban events in Volta. I can’t recall if she continued to play when things moved over to Myanthea. When that campaign ended she was part of the first wave of players who moved over to Mirror Mirror.
18. Cid Timmons, Champion of Houppeland
Cid retired after the National final and went to live in Houppeland. He has made a few guest appearances since that at some NERO events but still remains inactive.
19. Nightshine
Nightshine remained involved with Boston NERO afterwards and played a large part in the Volta campaign which recently ended. She retired the character after a Myanthea event where she said her goodbyes and wrapped up some loose ends.
20. Drake Tammarack, Champion of the Crystal Drake
Drake played a part in both the Voltan and Myanthean campaigns until their conclusions. I’m unsure what he is up to these days.
21. Cynnir Ghoststalker, Champion of the Lorekeepers
Cynnir followed the well worn path of several other ex-Voltan characters to the Mirror Mirror game. Like Fayden she is playing an dark version of Cynnir from the alternate future of the Oraban plotline.
22. Tavi Thunderzapp, Champion of Evendarr
Tavi ended her NERO career with the closing of Volta. After her player lost another character to permanent death in the Mirror Mirror campaign she decided to bring Tavi there.
23. Desmond Sorrow
Desmond Sorrow did not even make it to the final event. He was killed by Oraban shortly before. His name still pops up in plot every now and then, but the character remains dead and I suspect he always will.
24. Sage
Sage seemingly died at the same time as Sorrow, but he in fact did survive and had a very small scene right at the very end of the National final. After that he was completely destroyed.
25. Oraban
The bad guy, the villain, the outsider. At the end of the National final we managed to kill him. I have been told that plot had contingency plans in place in case we didn't kill him, but these were not needed.
