I live in a small, somewhat hip college town in Northern California where any number of interesting cultural events are taking place on any given night, but I prefer to stay in and fart around online or watch bad TV. I drink corporate lattes because their place is more conveniently located than any of the ( Read more... )

your writing always draws me in. the honest way you write sometimes brings me shame of my own dishonesty.

Thank you. That means a lot to me because my writing in this blog was once judged to be "superficial" and "icy" by a panel of lj "judges."

I know nothing of your dishonesty. Your writing and photography has always struck me as very honest, your coming out as an atheist was also courageously honest.

Thank you. For your writing style, and for the book recommendation.

As someone from Sunnyvale, I am even more intrigued.

An actual book review I can get behind! Thank you. Now I know about this book and whether I want to read it or not. (I think I'll add it to my want to read list)

As for your statement: I nurture a secret penchant for that famous crucified guy, which casts a cloud of suspicion on my street cred

I'm sorry you feel this way. I don't have the same penchant, but I would never put you (or anyone else) down or feel differently about you because of your believing in something that does me nor anyone else any harm.

This is a great post - it's so soul-baringly honest, and I love that.

Regarding your comment: I had never heard of Ruth Ozeki, but I nodded my head in agreement and played it off like, “Yeah, totally. We gotta read Ruth Ozeki’s new one. That’s a total no-brainer.” sometimes it's good to sort of "fake it" when you've stepped outside your comfort zone until you get your bearings, and look how fabulously that turned out! Wonderful book review, too.

Thanks. I'm still feel like I'm faking it every day. Someday I hope to be an authentic human being. :)
