} 029 - [VIDEO, public] - in which Amanda acts like there are huge double standards

Jun 02, 2011 22:01

[Amanda is, as usual, sitting in her room, upon the bed. The difference is that, aside from her bed and clothing, her room is completely bare. Guess who lost all her stuff again? Amanda doesn't actually care about this issue at all, but that won't stop her from purposefully trying to sow anger and unrest!]

If I'd done to someone else what Edward ( Read more... )

I actually agree with you for once. We can't expect to lead by example this way.

Well, well, well. Look who's actually seen the light.

Which is why you'll be pleased to hear he's been put in level zero, just as you would have been.

And it only took...what? Hours, before the rest of you remembered that he should probably face retribution for beating someone?

Well, you have indeed stated what a number of us were thinking, albeit with a more personal spin. I find the Marquis's injuries particularly...regrettable. [Still getting used to that brand new twinge of emotion]. An entire year of recovery? That is unconscionable. He needs to be spending that time writing.

If Wardens presume to act as moral compasses for the rest of us, their own morals should be held to a higher standard. Not just an equal one. We can only be expected to squabble, fight, attack each other, and otherwise make whatever "mistakes" we are going to make, for we are supposedly the students. Though perfection is impossible, if the Wardens presume to teach us what is "right", they must display that they know what they are talking about, and will adhere to it. This is not a good place for the...how is it said..."do as I say, not as I do".

You have a lot of mettle. I...appreciate that.

And I must ask, though of course you are not required to answer: "tests"?

That's exactly how it's said, yes. You hit the nail on the head. It's encouraging to see others recognize the reality of this situation.

I'm flattered, and happy to answer your question.

I test those who are unappreciative of life, whether their own or others'. In their games, they are given a choice: suffer something to teach them to stop their behavior and replicate their misdeeds in a symbolic way...or death.

If someone is going to pretend to be my moral compass they had best be a good one. And the same can be said for all of us. Our lives, this "second chance"--they are no laughing matter. Warden disdain be damned.

Ah, so you are testing people in the same general sense that a warrior is tested in battle. Mettle, flexibility, adaptability, courage. And you tailor them to each individual?

...fascinating. [He remembers her wounds from the Flood.] And I take it you never hold back on these things.

It has always been my belief that the majority of human beings sleep a slumber of apathy and conformity that leaves them little better than animals. Since coming here I have met a surprising number who are fully awake instead. But I have never before spoken to someone who takes it upon herself to awaken other people, especially in such a way.

Each test fits the subject and their misdeed, and nothing is ever held back. To go easy would be a disservice to them.

I follow in the footsteps of John Kramer, the man who created this method. I was one of his test subjects, and the first to survive. He took me in, became my father and tutored me in his philosophy. Without him, without the test he'd put me through, I'd still be a worthless drug addict fucking men for heroin. I was completely cured of my addiction the moment I won my game.

I am proof that our method is sound.

You're an inmate. Of course you'd be treated differently, otherwise there would be little reason to differentiate between inmate and warden in the first place. And if the Marquis wishes to avoid prosecution, that's it. It's his prerogative as a warden.

Besides, the warden's have all the same rank and as such none of them has the right to penalize another one, anyway. That's the Admiral's job.

The Admiral. Of course. He's shown himself to be incredibly competent, what with all the floods he manages to steer into and the warden misdeeds he chooses not to address, hasn't he?

It is not a matter of competence, but of rank. And unless any warden usurps him or the Admiral makes one of them a judge, they simply don't have the right to punish someone of the same rank as them.

As it is, I care little what the wardens do, but this double standard of yours is simply the logical consequence to the current circumstances.

That's not a compliment.

I do not know. I cannot see you without thinking of the flood that happened most recently.

Good old Troy. That was a mistake on my part, you know--I suffered retribution because I never gave him a chance. I constructed to trap to kill him whether he followed the rules or not. He was in shreds by the time it was over.

Luckily for you, I turned over a new leaf before staging games here.

[Bored.]

Yes. You're despised. And you are not a warden. There's a reason for both of those things.

Oh wait, responding validates you. Never mind. I don't actually give that much of a fuck. Bye.
