My best friend Jessica is very, very sick. She has been in the hospital for four days now. Hopefully in the next few days she will recover enough to come out of sedation. Please send your prayers or warmest thoughts her way, because she needs all the help she can get.

Of course. That is a very taxing situation for you to be in--illness is hard on wellwishers and patients, both.

Very true. Her boyfriend is having a very hard time of it, especially when we thought she wasn't going to make it. It is looking more likely that she will recover now, though, so on our side it's mostly just a matter of waiting and hoping.

Thanks, Z. It's hard not to constantly think about it and stress, but I'm trying to have hope that she will get through this. She's gotten very bad a couple of times but for right now she is stable (as far as I know) and her recovery is looking more likely.

That's so good to hear. Is it ok for me to ask what she's sick with?

Pneumonia is a large part of it, but she also has developed ARDS (which her mom instructed me not to look up, as it has a very low survival rate) and otherwise they're not really sure what has caused it all to spiral out of control. It's very unusual for someone of her age and general health to become so sick so quickly, which is part of why they ended up flying her to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, for research and experimentation. They have ruled out H1N1 and a few other things, but I do not think they have yet figured out anything definite.

Me too. It is a very serious illness and she had us very scared for a while, but it is looking likely that she will successfully recover. Right now she is just stable, though.

Oh no, poor Jessica. I hope you and Max and her family are all hanging in there as much as possible. Here's hoping the doctors get her better real soon. <3
