(Episode 2: Those Capable)
Fun observation: Yayoi reading a guitar magazine! It’s those subtle things that you don’t pay attention to until watching things a second time because their significance is irrelevant then (kind of like what I mentioned before about foreshadowing being the first scene in the first episode). Later more of Yayoi’s past is revealed, making the magazine make sense. But I was all excited to share that in case anybody else missed it. And also because she’s my favorite. It would have been a cool thing to have noticed about her first time through because it would have taught me even a pinch more about her.
I’m glad Kougami is all good spirits because episode 2 came around and I was still not totally convinced of Akane’s nobility. The distinction I would like to make is this: if the Dominator had from the beginning insisted on the Lethal Eliminator mode, I might have sided with Akane on the grounds that the woman was a victim and didn’t deserve to be shot. But it recognized that she could recover with rehab. With Akane’s decision (to me) came a roundabout way of doing the very thing they were going to do in the first place. I appreciate moral convictions but still. All it did was cause more stress and ultimately didn’t change the outcome - although Kougami could have avoided injury. The woman’s Crime Coefficient only got worse after Akane helped spook her more staring down Masaoka’s Dominator.

Now that that’s out of the way. Shion.
Just because we have to. Even after watching the entire series I’m not totally sure what to make of her. In a good way.
But she’s hot.
And I love how everybody just ignores her little joke about Akane not being able to get in bed with Kougami, but she can visit if she wants. Did nobody else just want Akane to blush a little? Or something. I mean, if you wanna make the joke, drive it home. And she and Yayoi are together, obviously. Which was a fact that made me nervous. I wanted there to be more to her than obvious sex appeal and her relationship with another woman. Especially for Yayoi’s sake because she hardly talks. You know how people get carried away. I don’t like characters that are inserted just to get blood pressure up. (lolwhoops) Anyway, I still appreciate her sex appeal. I’m just glad that she earns her keep in other ways if you catch my drift.
