EPISODE 3: A NEW STAR SHINES IN THE DAWN SKY (PART 1)

• Tahara’s flower - the only remnants of life in a space littered with human remains. Beautiful on its own and glowing (literally). Not only that, but it releases seeds, produces life right before his very eyes. Symbol of hope (before we even know what it can do).
But Wait! There's more... )

anime, darker than black

Just a general question for everyone first - which version are you watching? I'm watching the Funimation one ( ... )

I'm watching the Funimation version with the subs and re-watching it in the dubbed.

I'll have to pay more attention to the zoom in scenes now. Glad you're pointing those out.

Yes I thought it was interesting when the specter stopped at his window. But I kind of played it off, that he just happened to open the window, so the specter caught the movement.

Gate organics.

Less attention on him to place the pack on top, than to open the can and dump it inside.

Okay, I'm watching subbed and dubbed at the same time.

Ya I didn't think the spectre thing was anything major but it was interesting.

True, for the cigs. It still gives the same meaning without having to waste unnecessary time on it.

I agree with you on Mai's rejection of her father because she reverted back to a child like state.

Of course I notice it. It was like the scene with her father when she was a child.

"That smile doesn’t suit you."
I love that line more too.

I never really like how the English version just ignores the fact that he says he's from China and then come up with stupid lines like the clothes one.

Mask breaking is another item to count how many times it happens.

Yes, Mai was a Contractor. Tahara put the seed in her arm which turned her basically into a human for awhile till the seed vanished. Because of that, that turned her into a moratorium for some reason. She turned back into a Contractor because of her Father at the end.

I believes the way Hei approached him has a lot to do with it. Especially Hei's question. "Is it true about you using your daughter as a guinea pig?"

Ya it was creepy how some of the lines were altered... It was more obvious watching it with both. And also because we're purposely looking for things like that.

Haha, his mask breaks in every fight he gets into. It's only when he faces Misaki that it's intact XD

I kind of talked about my opinion on the moratorium thing already, but another point to add. She was a contractor since a young age but because of the seed, she never had the chance to learn how to use them properly. She didn't even know she had the power.

Because the seed's suppressive power was diminishing, her powers were uncontrollably leaking out and there was no way for her to know how to reign it in. She didn't even know it was her originally. And her unstable mental state just exacerbates the issue.

Which brings me to another question - anyone (besides me XD) have an explanation/theory for her reverting from moratorium to contractor?

She had always felt unloved, lost and alone because her father was never there for her, especially when she always came home to an empty house. She finally got that empty filling filled when her father finally said he loved her and that he was home, reverting her back to a contractor.

I guess I didn't word that properly. I meant more of the 'how' rather than the 'why'. Since you'll recall Mao asking the same question -an event taking place that was supposed to have a zero probability of happening.

i have too much to respond to here, after a bottle and a half of wine to my face (Synny and I decided a OHSHC drinking game was a novel idea). I have notes but wish to expound upon things that are already in discussion. Special focus: Big-brother Li in action!!! But it's nearly 5 am here... I will post in the afternoon. HUGS!

When Hei holds Mai's arm at the end of episode 3 Mai says, "It's like you're my brother." I think this line reminded Hei about Bai, because of his sad expression . I don't know if anyone noticed it, but Mai kind of looks like Bai. Their hair colors are almost the same, the front of their hair is the same and their faces are similar. Only the eyes are different. Mai is around Bai's age when she died in Heaven's War (14 I think?). Maybe Mai bring memories to Hei about his sister. That would explain why he is so concern about her. When she is yelling at him on the bridge, Hei looks at her with some weird expression as though he feels sorry for her. Then he wipes her tears and takes her to the park. It really feels like he is acting like an older brother.

So true! She looked enough like her that I'm sure it triggered something within him. Though, we wouldn't know that if we were just watching for the first time.

We wouldn't. I noticed it the second time I watched it.

By the way, it nice to meet you!
