I'm planning on making a CD of some great songs from the early 90s. It doesn't have to be all one type of music, but I'm planning mostly grunge and some new wave. From Pearl Jam to Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Gin Blossoms to the Cure, if anyone has some ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Elliot Smith is early/mid 90s and he's really great. He's been classified as indie/folk, but some of the songs on his "Either/Or" album sound almost identical to something written by Kurt Cobain - the epitome of grunge. Elliott also dated a woman who dated Kurt, if that's of any relevance. They also both committed suicide and were addicted to heroin. Elliott committed suicide only a few months ago, and new cd of his was scheduled to come out this year, 30 songs long. It's postponed now, but sure to be excellent. I still don't know if he's relevant to a 90s / new wave / grunge mix cd, but he's a great artist nonetheless, and you mentioning grunge made me think of Kurt, and then Elliott. And you might just enjoy him period. So < /speech >.

I just wanted to tell you that, from the pictures that you have posted in your journal, I think you have made some wonderful collages.

In regards to this particular post though, there have already been some great suggestions made, but I had a couple more ideas. Perhaps some songs from Live's "Throwing Copper" album or Bush's "Sixteen Stone"? Maybe something by REM, the Violent Femmes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Crash Test Dummies, Jawbox, Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Nine Inch Nails? And of course, there is always Richard Marx and Jamie Walters, heh...

Thank you so much about my collages :)
I made one CD of this last week, and am working on a Volume 2. Heres the list
Toadies- I come from the water
DMB- Satellite
The Smashing Pumpkins-1979
Tonic- If you Could Only See
Blues Traveler- Canadian Rose
Blur- Song 2
Sister Hazel- Its All For You
Deep Blue Something- Breakfast At Tiffanies
Soundgarden- Spoon man
Pearl Jam- Elderly Woman
Radiohead- Optimistic
Presidents of the United States of America- Peaches
Nirvana- The Man Who Sold the world (David Bowie Cover)
Counting Crows- Mr. Jones
New Radicals- You Get What you Give
Gin Blossoms- Until I Fall Away
Bruce Springsteen- Dancing in the dark

Some of them are early nineties, some late...some are a stretch, but it's a happy CD. I put a few of other recommended songs (like Elliot Smith) on other CDs because they are awesome too.
This became a really long reply...

i'm surprised you havent brought up talking heads. I added a little 80s in it, and a little late 90s too. And of course Presidents of the united state of america.
Do you still have that story that you wrote that had the lyrics from the talking heads in it. You told me about it...i think last fall, after a Dodger show. But I'd really like to read it sometime

And yes, Perfect Strangers was the best show ever
