So things haven't exactly been going swimmingly lately (family and personal shit). But... who cares? I've got presents coming tomorrow and friday! In preperation for my NYC move, I realized that I had to get rid of the vast majority of my belongings, and downsize the rest. Does that sound like a justification to get rid of my PC and get a ( Read more... )

First, Saturday is August 19th, not 20th. Second, I will be in the Outer Banks at the same time. I'm there from the 17th to the 19th. But I could perhaps stay an extra day and hang out. Also there will be Carver, my friend Allison (have you met her?), and various other people you may know. I invited Bill, Crystal and crew, but I'm not sure if they want to come or not.

So basically, I'm just saying other people may be there to hang out if you want.

You are smart and I am dumb. I fixed it. I'll be leaving sometime on the 19th and staying until the evening of the 23rd or so. Where are you going to be? The outer banks are a big place. It can take a few hours to get from one place to the other. Are you going to be up by Corolla/Whalehead/Duck or down by Kitty Hawk/Avon/Salvo? It would be great to see you guys down there.

I think it's around Kittyhawk / Kill Devil Hills. I'm checking with Allison. She's the one who got the house. We are all just going along with her plans.

That's only like 30ish minutes from where I'll be, so we can definetly hang out.

I have become addicted to the Brain Age Suduko puzzles.

Yeah dude, they're great. I've been doing like 2 or 3 a day. What's your brain age right now? I'm at 25, but I've only owned it for 2 days. Plus whenever I take the stroop test, it can never recognize the word "blue" so it fucks up all the time.

Michelle and I both have the same problem with the fucking stroop test and the word "blue". That and the game not recognizing my handwriting sometimes fills me with unholy rage. I think my brain age is 25 or 26 right now. I'm about halfway through the intermediate Suduko.

I'm glad it's not just me on the stroop test! I would do so well if it would just recognize what fucking color I'm saying. I HATE when it doens't get your handwriting correct. Like when you're doing the calculations (which I suck at because I never learned how to do subtraction in my head) and it records the wrong number and you look stupid. It's happened on the Sudoku puzzles sometimes too. Do you guys have big brain academy? That looks kinda interesting as well.

A cabin in colorado sounds awesome. It's the perfect place to hide out during the inevitable zombie invasion. I think for me, the mountains trump the beach every time.

You are correct, I'm working in Alexandria. I would love to get a drink or dinner or just hang out with you at some point. You'll have to clue me in to your work schedule, even if it's erratic.

I'm glad you're doing well. Don't stress us old guys leaving. I think we've been really good models of fun for you. You know how to rock, you've just gotta commit yourself to it.

I will definetly visit Williamsburg at some point. At least one more time this summer, and hopefully around homecoming or so in the fall. I don't want to be the annoying old guy who keeps coming back and bothering the shit out of everyone though.

It is strange to make the transition from hanging out with people any evening of the week to mostly only seeing people on the weekends. I usually only do one or two social things on the weekend, and then have D&D during the week, but I'm also an introvert and haven't felt much like socializing recently because the thought of getting ridiculously blasted doesn't appeal to much to me at this stage in my life.

There's nothing wrong with getting tanked, mind you, it's just not for me right now. Also I'm too old for this shit.

I don't even mind not getting wasted (although I do still enjoy the occasional topping-off). I just miss not seeing people during the week. Everyone lives in Clarendon or whereabouts, so if you wanted to go grill together on some night, you could. I'm just too far away to make stuff like that work well. I think I derive a lot of my energy from the people around me, so being cut off from that makes me feel a little lost.

I get plenty of the "let's get totally shitfaced and have fun" stuff, but virtually none of the "hey what's going on, let's watch TV or play video games or just hang out" stuff that you get when you live with friends.

You're completely right, and that's why I've had to start scheduling time with people during the week to do activities like that, since I can't stroll down the street to Steve's house, for example.
