Wedding Ceremony help (Edited)

Our officiant has been very lax about contacting us, and considering we're getting married in 20 days, something really needs to be written up. We're writing our own vows, and pretty much our own ceremony too but I expected help from John with that part. Anybody out there ( Read more... )

Do you have anything already written up I could look at for advice?

All my stuff is on my other computer. I do have the notes from my previous ceremonies. But I think it might be quicker just to talk to you on the phone.

There are no legal requirements for the content of ceremonies in NY State. Although, to be safe the two people involved should state, in front of witnesses, that they intend to be married. Anything other than that is optional.

So, the first question is: what religion, if any, is your ceremony going to be?

I've already been married, legally, here. The wedding with all the fancy stuff is more of a big party where most people think we're getting married (despite what I've told them). Its more of a formality. No religion really. No unity candles or sand or anything like that.

I think it looks good. All the non-Catholic weddings I've been to in the last year followed this format, minus the "I Dos" at the end. For some reason writing your own vows is not enough and the ring exchange happens too, with or without tying the hands together. One was in MD and the other was in MA, I don't know the state requirements.

I'm still looking forward to seeing you soon!
