All over the country every single day there are men and women alike who are living in a personal hell. This hell they live in is one they either don't know how to get out of or it is one they do know how to get out of but choose not to ( Read more... )

Great post. I think it's another one of those issues that people can face no matter where they live. We are lucky in this country that there is more help if we choose it.

Also I had no idea that Tom wasn't a Christian. I do find that kind of funny. He is a sweetie but seems like such an independent thinker.

This is so very true. And that is where society does not do a good job. People know they can get help and don't get it or people just ignore what they see. Help is there. One just needs to reach out and ask for the help.

Yeah, Tom is a free thinker indeed. Very good guy that I would not trade in for anything.

I'm a Dominionist walkaway and am coming to terms with a lot of what happened in my childhood now that my mother is gone. In case you're not familiar, the short version is I was abused because my mother thought that saving my soul was more important than me. It's long and complicated ( ... )

Unfortunately people are abused by the very people in faith organizations that are ment to keep our kids safe. That kind of thing really upsets me to know end.

Only five years ago did I start talking openly at my church about the abuse I faced as a child. They have been supportive. But to me that would not have been the case back in high school. I was already considered an outcast then without adding to it.

So yeah, people do need to look at what path they want to follow and if it is right for them.

Thanks for reading.

great entry...and this is a topic that's close to your heart...

It's interesting that you mentioned that you're a Christian, but belief/faith won't get that person out of abuse...only that person can. People can't get help unless they help themselves, this is true with many things... :)

One can be a Christian or believe in all sorts of things but if you are in a situation where you need help and you don't ask for that help nothing is going to get better.

Yep, this comes from the heart indeed. Thanks,

I agree we are lucky to live in a country where we are offered shelters. Though many will not seek it. Lucky we live in a country you can practice any religion you choose. There are countries where man rule...a woman or his children are property to beat or abuse as he chooses, still. Where a raped woman is stoned to death for provoking a rape. Where a father or brother can kill a daughter if she disgraces the family by falling in love with an unsuitable man.

Nice thought provoking entry.

You are right, we do live in a good place here where we have a lot of freedom. I have heard horror stories about how women are treated in other countries. I am sure I would never have survived for one reason alone. I have a disability.

Thanks for reading.

As an abuse survivor, I can relate to much of what you have written here. I think the part that rang the most true for me was the part about gaining confidence in oneself, the confidence to really believe that this is not the life I deserve. Sometimes, I don't know that I've gotten there.

This is a difficult topic. You handled it well.

There are always going to be good days and bad ones. Thanks for reading and I hope you can get to a place where you can at least care about you. That part is very important.
