Since I have 5 minutes to myself, I thought I'd post pictures of the picnic from March and a pic of something new I'm working on.
OMG...doesn't Erin look so cute! I am so in love with her dress it's not even funny. Made from cotton shirting, it looks fantastic. I wish I'd gotten a picture of the detail on the underskirt...sheer ribbon roses. *swoon!*
My dress ended up not fitting me very well (the skirts were held on with safety pins) because from start to finish, I'd lost 3 inches from my waist and hips. Yay! But it made trying to fit the bodice a pain and I eventually gave up. I would have had to start over because the sizing had changed so much and I really didn't have the fabric to begin again. I omitted the ruffle around the hem of my underskirt because the fabric was too heavy to get through the ruffler foot. But since the ruffle fabric is cut and hemmed, I think I'll simply roll hem the top so it can go through the foot easier....as it is now, I did a fold over hem because I wanted a neat edge. Pfffft.
Near the end of the picnic, we met some other ladies in vintage frocks and we chatted while people took our pictures. It was like Dragon*Con....minus the booze. Next year...it'll be EXACTLY like Dragon*con. A few people asked to play our croquet game, and while I'm not completely heartless, I didn't want kids smacking balls into the river so we turned people away. We won't bring it next year...too much hassle. As for fare, Erin's mini dessert tray was so tasty and I thought my curried chicken salad pitas were awesome.

For the geeks among us, you may recognize this tunic from the original Trek series. The collar was a little annoying and it's not 100% perfect, but I'm through messing with it. I have 2001: A Space Odyssey jumpsuits to make before the end of the month. After that I need to make flightsuits from the 80s TV show Airwolf, Maude Lebowski's Gutterballs skirt to replace my current one, Lost in Space stuff and, finally, some preproduction Ralph McQuarrie Star Wars costumes. As Doctor Smith would say, "Oh the pain! The pain of it all!"
I'm anxious to hear from my college about my admission into the health sciences curriculum. It should come any day now. Gah!!
Lastly, I'm trying to turn my brown thumb green. Since my Chia Pet Herb Garden is thriving, I'm trying my hand at veggies now. We'll see how they turn out. I'll be growing them in containers on the patio so as not to dig up the yard...in the event they die.
That's it for this post. If I get progress pics of the 2001 stuff, I'll post as I go. If not, there will be pictures in May.
Stay safe, kids!
