Have you thought about leaving him a night light? I worked at a summer camp in 1999, where there was a ghost who'd turn on faucets in one wing of the top floor of a certain building. When a radio was left for him, the faucets didn't get turned on any more, but the station was changed. I theorize that he was just bored.
It's sort of silly to say, but maybe your ghost is afraid of the dark.
from what I know of you can ask him to leave, it's easier when you know his name though. I also think you are right in assuming it's a he.
Tell him he's dead and to go home. He doesn't belong there anymore. It's like he still thinks he's alive, taking showers and all. He sounds friendly though so don't scream at him or anything, leave a nice little note in the bathroom, or just say it aloud when these types of things happen.
I had a similar problem with the ghost that lived in my house when I was growing up. We pretty much just asked him to stop doing $THING and he'd stop. Sox (when he was alive) used to turn the power off on his family for days and not come home at night. He'd beat his children, and he hated dogs. When he was our ghost, he'd turn ON all the lights, turn on the heat, open doors, and walk around the house, pacing up and down the stairs. He used to tuck me in, too. But he still hated dogs. He scared the crap out of our puppy!!
