DUDE, I was sooooo wondering if the first was a Poe reference but wasn't sure so I kept mum.

I love how you outlined the imp in red. totally makes it pop creepily

It was! I know it is less creepy than the usual interpretation of that story.
Closing Time is so super creepy. I like Gaiman's short stories better than his long works and this one makes me think about it every now and then since I first read it.

not less creepy. I think there was a very suitable application of cf creepiness.

I need to look into his short stories then because I keep trying to read his novels and I get distracted and wander off.

you should look into his short stories. I liked Smoke and Mirrors, it has a snowwhite rewrite and one that is called babycakes - that is really freaking creepy (about cannibalism...) and other great stories and poem-thingies. It's not that expensive either and you can always skip the stories you think will bore you to death. You should not skip the introduction. He hides stories in them too.
sadly I only have a German version of smoke and mirrors, so I can't mail you my favourites.
but I have a scan of A Georgia story, if you should be interested.
