Attended princesabin's wedding. It was a lot of fun. It was a Hindu ceremony, and the central moment of the wedding (so far as I could tell) had to do with ritually revealing the bride and groom to each other (symbolizing that they see each other for the first time). The Internet is your friend. There's lots of good tie-tying resources. That's how I learned.

I learned how to tie a tie via necessity, since my high school was very preppy and the dress code required shirt and tie.

I only learned much later that my knot was a four-in-hand, and in fact there are many variations. My favorite so far is the Half Windsor. You should learn four-in-hand first, but after that, try the half windsor.

Youtube seems to have a wealth of video resources on this topic.

Apparently there is a correspondence between ways to tie a tie and random walks on a triangluar lattice, and the people who discovered this wrote a book about it - The 85 Ways to Tie a Tie, which I found just now while stumbling around Wikipedia looking at tie articles.
