Ok... so I have a lab book for my Bus 107 class. It cost me $75.00! Not cheap!! So the first day we need the lab book, one of my friends, who I have been friends with since high school, asks me if he can borrow my lab book for that day since he hasn't gotten one. He has the class right before mine so I didn't see a problem in letting him borrow it ( Read more... )

Tell them (separately) if they want to share it with you, they have to pay for half of the book. Then take both of their payments and buy another book. Introduce them to one another and say "Here's the person you split the book with." And they'll tell their children one day about the Yenta that was Christy Hawkins.

i like sarah's idea, but really that's still too much effort on your part. you really don't have any responsibility for anyone but you in school. i sure didn't think about letting anyone use half of any of my statistics or business books (which generally cost about that much too) at the risk of my education. you paid the money so you could have access to that book 24/7. it's not like the school wouldn't work with either of those people to ensure they have the books since they are paying so much in tuition. they just want to pocket the $75 by taking advantage of a friend. just tell them like it is.
