Mid-Afternoon Nap [for blackasthe]

Remus was having an interesting day to say the least. After having to wrestle away Peter's cologne when the sheer magnitude of scent in the air sent him into a coughing fit, he'd been forcibly removed from the dorm room by James, who wanted more poetry to spew off at Lily. He was hesitant, despite the desperate look on his mate's face, to give the ( Read more... )

Sirius was frowning. On the young Black, the expression was usually a worrying one--though, granted, there were few expressions Sirius ever wore that didn't cause concern for at least someone, but foul spirits didn't suite Sirius, didn't suit most people, sure, but most certainly didn't suit Sirius.

He slipped into the dorm without his usual grandeur, quiet step and a letter folded painstakingly careful in his hands, the edges matching up perfect with pristine creases. At first, the boy hadn't noticed that the room wasn't empty. Empty was what Sirius was hoping for, but not really what he needed, and he watched Remus dozing for a long moment, his frown deepening, before he moved to settle himself on the sill by Remus' feet, leaning his back against the window and bringing his knees up. "Boring books are the leading cause of cancer, you know." A typical Sirius Statement, though not quite delivered the right way.

He could sense Sirius before he spoke, the familiar presence and footfalls causing the young werewolf to stir and lazily crack an eyelid. The image before him was not what he had been expecting. This was not normal, and that was not the ever charming face his best mate kept pulled at all times. Remus leaned forward from the wall, stretching the knots of sleep out of his spine. "What would make you think that it's boring?" he tips his head to the side, his muscles protesting the stretch. He finally melts back against the stone wall, watching Sirius from under his lashes as his hand absently strokes the cover of his book.

There's something about that frown that he doesn't like, and not just because it is indicative of a problem. Sirius never has anything to be upset over. He's free from his family, he's the essential king of Gryffindor, and he is the one that does he dumping, not any of his numerous girls that he keeps at hand. "Are you alright there mate?" Don't worry the Moony please, he gets invasive.

"Anything you read had a 75% chance of being boring." He answered with an attempted smile that didn't seem to fit right on his lips, watching Remus' hand trail over the book's cover, twisting his letter between his fingers almost absent mindedly.

The sad excuse for a smile dropped at the question and he frowned again, crossing his arms over his knees and resting his chin on them. Sirius was silent a long moment, gaze focused on some distant place on the far wall as he almost seemed to curl in on himself, pulling his knees a little closer to his chest.

"My uncle Alphard died a couple nights ago."

"Now Sirius, just because you don't appreciate classic literature," he retorts, forcing his mouth to curve into a slight smile. The Great Gatsby is not what Remus would classify as boring by any stretch, but he'd long since given up on trying to convince the lads otherwise about his choice in readings. After they caught him reading biographies and histories for fun, they never believed his judge of interesting material ( ... )
