Okay so ....

Every once a month I go through this phase, where I get really health conscious. I make it a point to brush my teeth every day, put on lotion, shave my legs, paint my toes (I'm pretty sure most girls don't have to remind themselves to do these things). I go to the gym like every week and take vitamins and all that shit ( Read more... )

Why is it that when someone asks you to repeatedly validate how you are feeling, you over analyze everything and immediately become depressed?

case in point:

mom: whatever happened with that boy you were seeing?
leah: that didn't work out.
mom: ...
leah: it didn't work out, mom, these things happen.
mom: do you want to make an appointment with Judith?
leah: NO, MOM, I REALLY DON'T NEED TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST, THANKS.

what does mexican brunch include?

It included lots of margaritas.

Do all moms prod you until you become a hollow emotionless shell? I mean I know they have good intentions...but I might really need therapy soon. Like I've seriously thought I might do it.

I'm on the edge man.

I'm too exhausted to be too upset, but fibromyalgia is not made up. There are people who just say they have it, but there are also people who genuinely have it, including young people (like me). Some days I'm only able to stay out of bed for a few hours and have pain no drug will help, and to say at 27 that that's part of the aging process is ridiculous. I admit that I have other problems along with it, but it's no less there. It's an autoimmune problem, and those are hard to diagnose.

I wish I could state my case better, but I'm not thinking straight.

First of all let me just state I hope you did not take offense to my obvious tongue in cheek post. I in no way meant to mock people who have problems with chronic pain. In fact my sarcasm was directed to the science, medical, and media attention of fibromyalgia.

I've done a lot of research on this. I've read journal papers and tried looking for some sort of statistical proof on a cellular level.

There are plenty of autoimmune diseases that do exist with actual cellular proof like arthritis, AIDS, mono etc.It just seems like things like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome have become the perfect blanket terms to describe general symptoms that doctors don't understand.

I'm not saying your pain isn't real. I'm sure that you have severe tiredness and inflamed joints. I just believe that perhaps they can be caused by something else.

As someone who has had a breadth of medical problems, would you not agree that most of the time doctors have no idea what they are doing?

I'm not a scientist or anything, and have no idea about finding fibromyalgia at a cellular level. I do, however, do a lot of research. This is an article a friend of mine sent me. I'm also a med geek, and so have researched this and other autoimmune diseases a lot. So has a friend of mine, more of a med geek than me.

There are a lot of people who use it as a blanket term, or just say they have it because it's the fad. Me? I went through the whole "get mono, never get better, have random health problems, lose weight, try drugs" sequence of events (that lasted years) and has changed my life.

So what I gathered from that article is that pain and fatigue are due to the viruses that patients have accumulated in their bodies. I am assuming then that you believe fibromyalgia causes a lack of viral recognition in the human system which would make sense ( ... )

mexican brunch rules your ass!
i put fibromyalgia in the same category as ADD - possible in certain cases, but way WAY overapplied. Plus, think what it does for the pharmecutical industry?!

good luck with the sixers.

yeah I slightly agree, though I think ADD is made up to...they are all blanket terms used to identify shit doctors don't understand.

you know I didn't feel that buzzed but those margeritas sneak up on you...

and it is no joking matter. After having her daughter (she had her YOUNG), she couldn't get up at night to take care of her. Thank god she has a wonderful hubby that could. But seriously, it is a real disease. If you saw how it impacts my girl friend, I don't think you would be so quick to say its fake. Her life can be going wonderfully in all areas but her health.... and then when her condition acts up more than normal, depression ends up setting in right away. She has to make sure to take naps during the day because even getting the typical 8 hours of sleep isn't always enough. She has learned to deal with the condition and takes a good of care as she can to not let it get out of hand but there is only so much one can do. Even doing everything as one should, the condition still can act up. Anyway.... just a little insight. BTW... my friend is 24.

As I explained above this post wasn't directed to people who have chronic pain, but rather the fact that doctors use widespread diagnosis to explain things they don't understand.

I'm sure your friends pain is very real, I'm not denying that. What I am saying is that the diagnosis isn't real. Doctors are all to caught up with finding a name instead of finding a cure.

Re-reading my own words it definitely doesn't come across the way I meant it and I apologize. I had just spoken with my mother (who definetly does NOT have fibromyalgia but claims she does along with every other new fad disease)so I did make this post in reguards to her and people like her.

Truthfully I don't think your friend has fibromyalgia. I think her pain might be due to something real...not just a name. Don't you think it would be better if doctors could give her a reason for having constant pain instead of a simply term for it?

Hahahaha!!! OMG! Why can't I have conversations like that with my Mom? I don't know if I should be grateful or what? Maybe I need to move out.
