I love the idea of being pulled into a person - sometimes you just cannot help it no matter how much you deny it or try to protect yourself from it.
And something about the last line of Jayne's - although you don't see much of his side of the story or even much dialogue from him - it just speaks volumes about how much he cares for her. Such a candid response to something Jayne probably knows is very important to River.
*hugs* Thank you so much for shoving nudging me in the right direction with this one!
I didn't show much of Jayne's reaction because I wanted to show River thinking that he's completely unaware of the maelstrom going on inside her. But by blocking out his thoughts, she doesn't see that he really is affected and not as oblivious as she assumed.
I'm not sure if I got all that across, but that was what I was going for. :)
It's been a while since I've written anything for these characters, but I've missed them a lot. While I don't have any more Rayne planned, I would never count it out. :)
Eee! Happiness! A rayne-y cricket fic. Perfection! *trembles* I love sweet Jayne. And rough Jayne, agressive, angry, lusty, and embarassed Jayne. Okay so I would take him any way I could get him. I'm a Jayne-Whore. Great Job!
You took this prompt and worked it good! I like how you so beautifully illustrated River’s attraction towards Jayne as dangerous, which in turn made it all the more appealing and hard to resist. It hurts to fall.
My fave though was the opening kiss. Very romantic and Riverish; her exploring, testing, while Jayne slumbers. : )
I've noticed that I love to write characters sleeping. I'm guessing it has something to do with showing their vulnerability, but in this case it just seemed like River would be drawn to him when he was in the least threatening position.
Thank you for the nice comment, but also for giving me the prompt to begin with. I forget how much I miss these characters when I don't play with them for a while. :)
I've been so deep into DG/Cain fic lately that some Tin Man themes slipped in there (light and metal), but I hope it still worked for these characters.
