Oh I just bought some cleaning tablets for my retainers today! Can you really clean them with white vinegar?
It is sad that less people are on LJ now - many have moved on to Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, etc. I don't really like Tumblr because it feels like it has less archiving features - once something has been pushed off the main page, it's hard to see it again. Although when I think about it, LJ is like that too? Hmm. Also there are less conversations on Tumblr, which is the main thing I like to read.
you can! i just soaked mine in white vinegar overnight. the next day, i scraped off the gunk with my fingernail. these hadn't been cleaned properly (ie. with anything that wasn't water/soap/dishwashing soap/TURPENTINE) before, so i was really impressed.
i think tumblr has tags, though i haven't tried to see how they work. some tumblr accounts allow you to go back and see previous posts. what i like is the written stuff on lj-- people expressing how they feel and whatnot. all these one-sentence + picture posts don't really tell me much about the person i'm trying to befriend. ):
Hmm, maybe have to get a big bottle of vinegar - just got big list of everything that needs to be cleaned in the rental place before moving out, and I'm dreading to think how much oil has built up in the range head. You know asian cooking style...
I agree that I don't like having to search through page by page on tumblr and twitter. And the content is not as meaty - am also more of a word devourer.
On LJ, there are still a bunch of active communities/fandoms about, like japanese, backyard_birdsdiscworld. Or maybe I just check LJ so infrequently that the sporadic posts seem more active, haha. But there are a lot of communities that have died out. Although I still manage to find a decent amount of fic when I want to. Won't say what kind of fic, fufufu.
I'll never leave LJ! All my RL friends left LJ after high school, I'm the only one that still posts. But I love my journal, it's my safe space. I did eventually join Twitter to keep up with hs friends, but honestly LJ is still teh awesomeness.
Tumblr does have tags. The problem I have with Tumblr is that you can't search by date, so if I'm looking for an old post on my friends' Tumblrs, I have to look page by page.
i don't get twitter. maybe it's just 'cause i never really have anything groundbreaking that i can say in only 180 chars. ):
do people actually post anything on tumblr that's worth searching for? :P maybe it's just been the blogs i've seen. i never really see anyone WRITING anything.
Personally I think the microblogging fad is a sign that people's attention spans are getting shorter because they can't sit still enough to actually read a real entry, let alone type them out.
eh, there are many a pretty picture on Tumblr. That's about it. It's all visual, no writing. it's good for brain dead web surfing though.
ALSO PS your journal has WAY more active people on it than mine - you've got 16 comments already!!
Is it LJ that's dying or is it the fandoms themselves? Because I feel like my fandoms aren't as active as they used to be, which makes me so sad. :(
Tumblr makes me think of MySpace, but for fandoms. Just like how MySpace was all about picture stalking/posting pictures/videos, etc., Tumblr feels like kind of the same thing. Maybe it's just because I haven't figured out how to properly use it yet lmfao.
But for me, the biggest threat to my LJ existence is definitely Twitter. XDD Gods, I love Twitter. In a way, I don't feel the need to post so much because I'm abusing the shit out of Twitter, oversharing my life, etc.
yeah, a lot of fandoms are dying. i think that might be because of everyone picking up, moving elsewhere and starting fandom comms there, though.
i have never understood myspace. tumblr is okay, but i'm pretty much in the same boat as you. i kiiinda get how to use it, but it seems like it's just about picspamming and then reblogging picspams, which is like... what's the point, i don't really get it. i haven't seen very much dialogue/conversation going on.
i don't get twitter. XD; i've tried to use it twice, but can't get into it. i can't say anything remotely interesting in just one sentence.
I personally use plurk, since even though it has some formatting issues, it's a buttbaby of twitter and IM - you put your thoughts down, and people can reply in real time. Or you can yell at yourself.
I just use LJ to put BIG chunks of thought down, or to log crap, more or less. Also, fandom communities - the Mass Effect one is awesome. :)
i tried plurk before but i got confused. ): especially 'cause i didn't have any friends who used it, so it was reaaaaally lonely and i got bored fast. i should give it another go.
my fandom comms are pretty much dead. :\ the only comms still alive are like my mangashare, bookshare and comic book comm (which is a feed from dreamwidth anyway).
VANISHING ERROR WHAT THE HELL IS THAT. XD i've never seen that before. oh lj, you were good before you started spreading your legs to fail marketing techniques.
i loved it too! all the comms and exciting people and fun trends. i feel you on the ghost town/everyone being everywhere thing, too. it's not that i'm against making new friends, it's more the sense of community that i really want (and get disappointed by the lack of). tumblr is okay, it's not really something i can get addicted to, but i've subscribed to several tumblrs just because of the amazing picspam. it's like the best place to trawl for fanart or lulz. twitter's the one i really can't get into.
IKR. i'm sorta like, GOD, this shit can clean hardened, calcified stuff that i couldn't scrape off before with a knife and turpentine. idk if it's just because of a chemical reaction between vinegar + spit, but if not, jesus christ is it safe to be eating something THAT acidic? D:
