So, Thanksgiving was awesome. Seeing all my friends and stuff. :D

Then I came back out here, got sick, and have a million and one projects due before my finals, which start at 7:30 am on Saturday.

WAHOO.

But one of my projects (two really, but I'm too lazy to photograph them) is artsy, so I'mma post it for the helluvit. It'll be awesome.

The piece is half of a presentation/paper on Romaine Brooks, 20th century American-born Parisian artist. We were supposed to associate it to Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party and create some kind of visual to represent our empowering women.
So:
The woman is my own recreation of her 1914 self portrait. I tried to combine her most notable styles, the epically haunting realism of her oil painting portraiture, and her later line drawings. I also decided not to add colour as a nod to her palette, which was predominantly grey. also this thing is due tomorrow
The horse represents Brooks' lover of 50 years, Natalie Barney, who was a renowned equestrian; the Eiffel Tower and Colosseum are Paris and Rome (dur), Paris for where she developed as an artist and lived most of her life, and Rome is both her namesake and a place of inspiration, where she learned art; and the flowers are azaleas, which appear multiple times in different paintings and are also a reference back to Chicago's depiction of Sappho.

Combination of pencil and felt ink pens.

:D

Tell me what you think?
