(Another Part of Me: Part 2)
They entered the massive building with their tickets in hand. A security guard was near by, giving people directions. “Go ask him where we have to go.” Selena said.
“Why me?”Purity asked.
“Because I’m shy.” Selena said. Purity went over to the guard and asked where to go. He was very helpful. “Just go down the hall and to the right, the door will be right up ahead.”
The girls went down the hall. When they got to where they were suppose to turn, they stopped. “He said to the right...........right?” Selena asked.
“Yup.”
“Did he mean your right, or his right?”
“I guess my right.” Purity said optimistically. “We’ll get there just fine.” They turned the corner and kept walking. Selena was becoming insecure. She was worried that they might have made a wrong turn and would get in trouble or lost. They kept walking until they reached a door. Purity opened the door, but didn’t find the large stadium she was expecting on the other side. Instead there was a narrow hallway. “I think we made the wrong right.” Purity said.
“Then lets go back.” Selena said timidly.
“We got time before the concert.” Purity said mischievously. “Let’s do some exploring.”
They walk cautiously down the narrow hallway until they reached a corner. There was a series of doors as they turned the corner. “I wonder where all these doors lead?” Selena asked herself. The explored even further, looking at the doors. Some had names on little gold plates, others were blank. Selena heard Purity gasp. “What? What?” Selena asked almost afraid to know the answer.
“Look who’s name is on this door.” Purity squeaked.
Selena looked up at the name on the door. A gold star hung on the top of the door with the name “Michael Jackson”. Selena could hardly believe it. Her mouth dropped to the floor. “Oh-My-God.” Was all that came out of her mouth. She heard a soft voice on the other end of the door. She pressed her ear to the door to hear. Purity did the same.
“And it doesn’t seem to matter, and it doesn’t seem right. “Cus the will has brought no fortune, still I cry alone at night.” sang the voice on the opposite side of the door. It was lcearly Michael Jackson’s voice. Selena was ecstatic. “Well, I guess it’s safe to say that he’ll be singing “Who is it?” tonight.” She said with a big smile.
“Yup.”
“Michael Jackson is right on the other side of this door. “Selena said unable to hide her excitement. “We have to meet him!”
“Well we can’t just barge in and say. “Hello Michael!” I mean. He’s gonna want to know why to fans are back here. We’re not suppose to be back here in the first place.”
“I know.” Selena confessed. “But I’m determined to meet him. It’s fate that brought us here! We were meant to meet him.”
They stood in front of the King of Pops door puzzled. How could get to meet him without looking like they purposely sneaked backstage? Before they could come up with a secure plan, they were discovered by two guards. “Excuse me, what are you two doing back here?” One of the guards asked.
“Uh........”Selena said trying to think of an excuse. “We made a wrong turn and ended up back here.”
“Well your not permitted to be here!” The other guard yelled.
“Why are you yelling at us?” Purity asked. “We just made a wrong turn when we were trying to find the concert hall, that’s all.”
“This is a closed area, no one is permitted to be back here!” He kept his voice raised, as if intimidation was the only way to make the sisters listen. Michael Jackson’s door opened and Michael stuck his head out. “Jake, what on earth are you yelling about?” Michael asked the guard. Michael looked at the girls and smiled. Well, hello.” Selena was overwhelmed with joy.
“These two snuck back stage. Mr. Jackson.” The guard said.
“We did not!” The girls said together.
“Jake.” Michael said stepping out of the room. His face kept a tranquil expression. “Don’t worry about them. I’ll show them where to go. Just go and make sure the stage is set.” The two guards left, Leaving Michael alone with the two girls. Selena’s head went down and her face turned rose red. Purity giggled. “She’s very bashful.”
“I apologize for my guards behavior. He raises his voice to everyone and I don’t like it. I’m thinking of letting him go.”
Selena lifted her head slightly. “You’re a very trusting person. “She chirped. “What if we weren’t fans and we wanted to like hurt you of something?”
“I could tell you were fans.” He said lifting Selena’s head up. “I’ve never seen anyone turn so red in the face.” He held her close and she almost fainted. It was obvious that Purity was a but envious of Selena being so close to Michael.
“So did you really stumble back here, or did you sneak back here?” Michael asked.
“We really did make a wrong turn.” Purity said.
“Well, I’m glade you did. I get kind of lonely sometimes when I backstage. I don’t really want any of the dancers or anyone to bother me, but at the same time, I want someone to talk to. I never understood why I’m like that.”
“How do you sing and dance with so much energy?” Selena asked. “I saw one of your shows for the Dangerous tour on HBO and you sing the songs even faster on stage.......and you dance like a nut at the same time! I’d be exhausted after the first song.”
“I’m never wiped out when I’m stage. In fact, I feel even more pumped up after the show.” He said with a smile.
“You ever get nervous before going on stage?” Purity asked.
‘Never. I love being on stage.”
Selena went to look at her watch, but realized she never put it on.” Pure. You know what time it is?”
“Nope.”
Michael opened the door of his dressing room. “I have a clock in here.” The girls followed Michael inside. “It’s 8:30.”
“Shouldn’t you be like doing last minute preparations or something?” Purity asked.
“I do all that ahead of time.” Michael picked his fedora up from the table and put it on. Selena noticed a newspaper on the far end of the table. There was something about Michael on the front page. She picked it up and read the heading to herself. “Jacko Backo in Courto.” She faced turned red with anger. “What bullshit.” She covered her after realizing she had said a swear word. She knew Michael wasn’t fond of cursing. “I’m ashamed to say that Pops reads this paper.”
“Purity looked at the heading of the paper. “You ain’t guilty of anything, Mike. We both know that.”
“I know the fans wouldn’t believe any of that media garbage.” Michael said satisfied
“Some people would probably regret becoming as big as I’ve become because of what the media does and says about you, but as long as the fans believe me and not the tabloids. I’ll never regret what I’ve become.”
“So you’re pretty proud of yourself?” Selena said.
“Yea.”
“They print up the stupidest things in the tabloids. You would believe ‘em?” Purity said.
“One tabloid I saw said that you were really a vampire!” Selena said. “I just started laughing, I thought it was so funny.”
“The media’s probably horrified of me.” Michael said. “So they thing I’m something undead.”
“I was just wondering.” Selena said. “You LOVE to be on stage. Have you ever been embarrassed on stage?”
“Michael turned red. “Well I did almost fall off stage once, during one of the shows for the Bad Tour. I think what embarrassed me the most was that it was in my home town.”
“You almost fell off stage in Gary?!”
“Yup.” Michael began pacing around. He looked over at the clock again. “Ten minutes to show. I always get so impatient before a show. I just want to get out on stage...............Let me shoe you girls to where the concert hall is.” Michael walked us out of the little hallway and out to the main floor of Garden. Selena was worried that Michael was being a little too bold coming out in the open like this. “Aren’t you worry about being bumbarded by fans?”
“I’m already prepared to run backstage.” He looked ahead briefly. “Just go straight and the concert hall is right up ahead. You can’t miss it.”
“Thanks Michael.” Selena said. She was holding back tears. She didn’t want to leave him.
He gave both of them and hug and kiss on the cheek before departing. Selena was so stunned, that she became oblivious to her surroundings. Purity apprehended her shocked sister. “Come on Mrs. Jackson. “She joked. “You can see Michael again on stage.”
Selena snapped back to reality and snatched Purity by the arm. “Come on! Come on! Lets get to the concert hall!” Selena said zealously. She hurried quicky forward to the concert hall, dragging her equally ebullient sister behind.
They reached the doors and presented their tickets to the usher. He showed them to their seats. They were both pumped up. “Oh my God, was he the friendliest guy in the world or what?!” Selena exclaimed.
“And brave. If I had as many fans as him, there is no way I would go out in the open like that.”
“I was about to pee in my pants when I saw him. OOOOO I’m getting restless. How much time left?”
“2 minutes.”
The atmosphere was getting tense. It was close to show time and Selena was stimulated Suddenly, their was a loud boom. Selena jumped. She was very paranoid and jumped over everything. A figure jumped up from a trap door on the stage. It was Michael. He stood perfectly still, not saying a word, or moving an inch. The moment seemed to last a lifetime. “What is he doing?” Purity asked in a negative tone. “Come on! Do something!” Michael raised his hands and removed his sunglasses slowly. When his hands were at his waist, he smashed his shades on the floor and began the first song. “Nation to nation. All the world must come together. Face the problems that we see and maybe somehow we can work it out.” He sang. He dance whimsically on stage, doing a spins and moonwalking with ease. Each performance was better then the last. Michael didn’t look listless at all. The final song came quickly. Before Michael started though, it seemed he wanted to address the crowd. How you doing!?” He exclaimed The crowd went nuts. “I gotta tell you New Yorkers are the best people in the world, and I had the chance today to meet two very nice young girls today before the show, and I’ve actually been inspired to write a song after the showed because of them, but that’s another story. Anyway, I would like the two of them to join me on stage for “On the Line.”“ The crowd was going nuts. Selena was beyond words. They saw two guards coming over to take them on stage. “I’m scared to be on stage!” Selena said to Purity.
“Just picture Michael naked. I assure you, you won’t be petrified anymore.”
“I feel so audacious.” She laughed. They were taken on stage and joined Michael at his side. It was the second time the girls got to be with him person. Selena couldn’t believe her luck. She knew everyone on her block would be skeptical when she told them how the night was. Selena thought.
“Don’t waste your time on the past, no no. It’s time you look to the future. It’s all right there if you ask, this time if you try much harder. You’ll be the best that you could be.” Michael sang. He put the microphone to the girls, so that they could sing along. “You gotta put your heart on the line if you wanna make it right. You gotta reach out and try. Gotta put your heart on the line, if you wanna get it right. Gotta put it all on the line.” It was defiantly a magical moment. The whole audience was singing along with the song. The song ended quickly and the magic of the moment died. Michael gave both of them a second hug and kiss and guards escorted them off stage.
The fans all left MSG satisfied with the show. Selena called her mother and father on her cell phone, telling them the show was over and that they were ready to leave. They waited for an hour and a half. Finally, their car pulled up and they got in. “So how was the show?”
“It was great!” they both said together. Selena was bouncing around in her seat. “And guess what? WE GOT TO MEET MICHAEL JACKSON!”
Her mother raised an eyebrow suspiciously. “Meet him? How?”
“When we were trying to find the concert hall, we got confused with the directions and made a wrong turn and ended up backstage!”
“And Selena was stupefied when she saw him.” Purity added.
“I was not stupefied.”
“You dumbass. You’re suppose to keep a cool head.”
“Don’t be so cynical Purity”
“sorry.”
With that, the family headed home. It was a night Selena and Purity would never forget.
