I enter the kitchen and said hello to the group. None of them said a word back. It made me feel uneasy.. I guessed they weren’t to happy about the stunt I pulled back on the field and I felt that I owed them an explanation. “Hey. I’m sorry I stepped out from behind you guys. I know you were only trying to protect me.” I said.
“That was really foolish you know.” Purity said.
“That wolf was insane.” Marius added.
“I know.” I said. “I guess I’ve been with Kiba so long, I’m gotten as thick headed as he is.”
Darren wrapped his arms around me. “Well, you don’t have to worry about that black wolf anymore.. It’s gone for good thank’s to Lestat.”
“It wasn’t all that difficult to kill it.” Lestat said.
I took a good look at the group and realized how safe I felt around them, as if nothing could ever hurt me. They cared about me and wanted to make sure I was safe. I had only known them for a brief time, but they seemed very caring. I had also guess that had accepted the wolves too. I think I found that even more comforting. I was wondering what Lestat thought of Kiba at this point. After all, Kiba had attacked him twice, but had helped him fight that black wolf just a few hours ago. :”Lestat, I hope you and Kiba are on friendly terms now.” I said
“I don’t have a problem with the white wolf anymore.” He said simply.
I breathed a sigh of relief. Suddenly, I felt Darren gently tugging me arm. “Merrick, can I talk to you in private for a moment?”
“I guess.” I said. “What’s wrong?”
He didn’t answer. He simply pulled me into a nearby empty bed room and sat me down on the bed. He put him arms around my waist and kissed me a few times. I knew he was frisky, but I was still getting over an attack. I wasn’t at 100% yet. “Darren, don’t try anything.” I’m not completely well yet.”
“I wasn’t going to do anything like that.” He said pulling me close to him and stroking my hair. He smelled divine. I was enjoying the moment. It was peaceful and loving.”You wanted to ask me something, Darren?” I asked
“Well........yes” He started. He seemed stuck on what he wanted to ask or say. After a few seconds, he continued. “I know I’ve only known you for a short while, but I care very deeply for you and I want you to stay with me.”
I smiled and hugged him. “I don’t have anyplace else to go. Of coarse I’ll stay with you.”
“I didn’t mean like just living here with me..........I mean.....well......Can I make you into an immortal?”
My whole body went numb. “You want me to become a vampire?”
“I love you. I want you to be with me. Of coarse I can love you when you’re mortal, but then you’ll be limited to me. If you’re a vampire, we can be together for all time. You look so beautiful now. You can look like this forever. I’m tired of being alone. I need someone to fill the void in my heart.”
I felt almost dizzy. I wasn’t sure what to say. This wasn’t something I can just say yes to like it was no big deal. Once I was changed, I could never go back. “How do you go about making an immortal?” I asked.
“It’s simple. I’ll drink all of your blood, then I’ll let you drink some of mine. You’ll die for a brief moment, then be reborn as a vampire.”
I thought. I felt like I was getting dizzier the more we talked about it. I wanted to be with him, but the thought of having to die first was scaring me to no end. What if something goes wrong and I just die? What if I don’t come back from the grave? What if I start to panick as he’s draining me? I began shaking my head. “I don’t think I can do this.” I said choking on the words.
He tightened his arms around me. “I would never let anything happen to you. I would make sure nothing goes wrong.”
“I love you.” I told him. “I want to be with you....................Give me a minute.” I got up and went back into the bedroom where the wolves were. I shook Kiba awake. “Kiba. I need to talk to you, right now.”
He appeared in his wolf form. He was half asleep.
I explained to him Darren’s offer and the process of becoming a vampire. I also explained my fear of something going wrong during the process. He seemed as anxious as I was. He said loudly.
“Keep your voice down.” I told him. “I don’t want the others to know about this. I don’t want to make thins into a big conversation. If I’m going to go through with this. I want to do it right now.
I want to know if you can stay with me when Darren is.........you know, turning me.”
“Yes. I think I’ll feel better if I know you’re right beside me.”
“..............................Yes.” I said. Kiba hopped off the bed and walked calmly with me back into the room where Darren waited. I was frightened to my wits end, but I reassured myself that everything would be ok. I walked forward to meet my fate.
