I never have time to write long comments, so I'ma do this in more than one sitting. Part One ...
I can think of two reasons for the desert setting. Since I hate interpretation, I'm inclined to believe it's from playing too much Prince of Persia. If you want the other side of the coin, though, I'd say it's a reflection on your subconscious worldview. According to this theory, it would mean that your life seems a struggle - a solitary one, no less - in which you have to fight the harshest the world throws at you.
The redheaded friend ... I'd say that's one of two things. She could be the embodiment of those who care about you coming to help you in your time of need. She could also be the avatar of your hopes for the future, leading you through the storm to better times. Other choice is it could just be a hint that you have a weakness for redheads, but I'm going to gloss over that since you asked for interpretive responses.
