As children they counted crows.

'Two for mirth,' the rhyme says, and anyone who saw them play agreed-- Naomi with her hands full of crayons, Kari dancing around her, draw that cat, draw me, draw that petal on the snow, Naomi, it's so pretty.

(Save once. Even then, their hearts remained one - but one for sorrow shared by two is only twice the sorrow.)

Kari keeps counting. Three for a wedding and for Naomi's lace and laughter, standing tiptoes to waltz cheek-to-cheek with Mal. And there are three - Naomi, her new husband, and Kari still dancing. Still trying not to count, because there are different ways the rhyme can go.

There are other fairytales. She'll rewrite three into one Naomi loves - and not a single crow. She will be Rose Red watching Snow White meet her prince at last.

(Mal is not, has not been a bear - of any sort. But some things can be ignored for peace of mind. She hopes.)

She's never saved Maluxan - not from the snow, not from herself. Maybe a happily-ever-after is close enough.

It isn't.

Three for a ( ... )

Hahaha, that's okay, when I first read it I was so incredibly sexually innocent that any subtext was lost on me, and it made for a very bizarre poem. Now, hah, yes. Tis smexy.

Ceci has sent me some teasers. There is GLEE, Syvia. <3<3<3

there's wolves about (implied spoilers!) crimsoncookie June 7 2009, 02:56:15 UTC
edit: ooooop forgot to warn - this drablet contains implied spoilers for the plot of p4.

------------

It's getting late, he says.
Your basket looks so heavy, he says.
I have a car, he says. Yuki-chan.

(All the wolves are after you, Yukiko, Chie says. Don't stray from the path - but that last part she never says aloud.)

The streetlights bloom through the fog as they pull from the Junes parking lot. She picks them with her eyes, one by one.

Adachi-san, she says. Have you ever met a wolf?

The fog presses against the windows, thick as trees, thick as branches. You're a little old for fairytales, aren't you? His cheek twists with a smile. But red is your color.

Isn't it, he says. Yuki-chan.

She'd assumed wolves in autumn would smell of wet fur and muddy paws, like a dog. She's wrong. They smell of too-loose suits and packaged natto. They smell of late nights and old coffee and hanging wires sharp against the sky.

No, she says. No.The car swerves and the wolf's snarl is lost in the crush and crinkle of Junes plastic ( ... )

Oh deeear.

All the wolves are after her, indeed. I really like it, particularly the part line "She'd assumed wolves in autumn would smell of wet fur and muddy paws, like a dog. She's wrong. They smell of too-loose suits and packaged natto. They smell of late nights and old coffee and hanging wires sharp against the sky."

Thank you. :)
