There's a certain "out of the frying pan, into the fire" sense here. Whatever the young woman thought she was escaping, this seems to be worse.

Giving up all control to someone else in exchange "for everything you could want" is incredibly dangerous. Your wants and needs then become subject to someone else's whim and definition, and what if finally the only thing you truly want is to be free?

Oh, you're absolutely right. This is based on a dark fairy tale, but I really wanted to show that there's more to each side than just good and evil - there's a lot of gray area. She also needed to realize that her actions had consequences; she was lucky enough to get a break this time, and next time, her luck could run out.
