i'm not sure why, but this post really set me off. gryn and i don't normally see eye to eye on most subjects, though. i just don't see how anyone can see this as a good thing. soon our days can consist of deciding what sex, eye color, and iq to give our little test tube babies WHILE we get a coffee brought to us by our pet robot. how sickening ( Read more... )

It doesn't sound like you understand what I am suggesting. I'm not suggesting that robots be created to do things so we don't have to do them ourselves, I am suggesting robots be created so that we can do things that are more important to us.. such as find ways to create world peace, cut down fewer forests, or feed the world. It would free up more time if machines did the menial repetitive tasks so people can go on to other things, like college, and learn about new ways to benefit nature and the world.

Education and implementing ideas would all take a lot of work, more work than machines would be doing, anyway. This wouldn't be a vacation, at all. It would be a time to work harder than ever on goals that really matter.

"People could concentrate on leisure, on doing what they enjoy."

noun: time available for ease and relaxation
noun: freedom to choose a pastime or enjoyable activity

it's great in theory. the point is, if a machine is created to do a menial task, soon they will be upgraded to do other tasks, such as run our errands. it will keep going. i'm sure no one thought that technology would have come this far, and, let's face it, that model of the robot looks like a computer from the 80's. it's going to get bigger, better, and more expensive. everyone's going to want one, and money will not be turned down.

it's not so much the general idea that i'm disagreeing with, it's the fact that people will abuse it. more chaos will be created 'cause people are always looking for ways to cut corners. it's great to think that the creation would go strickly to the benefit of the earth and humans, but it won't. that's the reality of it all. what you seem to not be telling yourself.

Hello.. goodbye.

I was really hoping you'd stick around to challenge my thinking.

It seems you'd rather run away.

umm... i axed a lot of people. some people that i even get along with on a daily basis. my journal is incredibly personal to me. All I've ever experienced from you is a basically one-sided conversation or that i'm "pretty". that's simply not enough. believe it or not the way you "challenge" my thinking makes it seem like you don't listen to a word i'm saying. thus, my effort feels incredibly empty.

still, if it was more than that, challenge MY thinking.
