mice and men
my dream last night wasn't like my normal dreams.
i dreamt that i worked in this institute and we were packaging live animals and storing or delivering them to some place. the place was a huge factory complete with insanely huge conveyor belts and giant gears. it was also built like a giant hive with thousands of tunnels twisting and turning into one another.
i dont remember the start but the clearest point i can begin from was that i was feeding some animals with some pellets. there were giant ants that were eating the pellets and i had get rid of them. i first tried talking to them and then picking them up one by one but it was no use. they were too many and so i pulled a lever and the floor dropped from beneath them. the ants all hurtled down to who knows where. i moved on to another pen and began feeding the animals when i heard a loud voice reprimanding me. i think it was the foreman of the particular area and he said that i was too harsh in dealing with those ants. i looked at him and realized that the foreman was an ant himself complete with a little hardhat. as punishment he pulled a lever and i fell hurtling down. when i came to i was in a cage. i guess my punishment was to be one of the animals to be sent to wherever. i didnt mind as it was a break from routine.
i don't know if i changed into an animal or was an animal to begin with but i think i was some sort of bear. in the cages and containers next to me on the conveyer belt was a female fox, a smelly old badger, a porcupine and some mice. some of us were in bags and i could not discern what they were. i don't remember the rest clearly. anyway we got to talking about our past lives and what was happening in the world outside. we also speculated on where we were going and what was going to happen to us. none of us were really scared or in a state of panic.
we talked for a long time until i spotted some sort of x-ray machine at the far end of our conveyor belt. there was this human inspecting each of the packages containing us animals. there were other humans with him and these picked up the cages or cases containing us animals in it and placed these on the x-ray machine. the inspector then immediately saw the animal inside as if the case was not there. sometimes he'd see a dozen monkey's in a particular bag or a huge snake of some sort. he'd try guessing what the animals were before they were placed in the x-ray machine to pass the time. the inspector was a cheerful and friendly man that loved to joke around. the whole process was like the baggage inspection at the airport.
i wasnt sure why but i hatched this crazy plan to distract the inspector. there was no sense in distracting the inspector as we all wanted to go through to the end of the conveyor belt and the inspector really didnt stop the animals from passing through but we did it anyway.
i don't know how we got a hollowed out cake but we did and we asked the mice to go inside and sing when we told them to. we hid the mice and gave the cake to the inspector. we asked him to guess what was inside without using the x-ray machine and we all laughed and chuckled as he placed the cake on a table and started to listen to the singing voices. there was a huge crowd gathering about the table and some of the people in the crowd started singing along. i shouted at these people and told them that we have to hear the singing cake. their singing just confuses things. anyway we were all pretty excited about the singing cake and were waiting for the big climax wherein the mice would burst out of the cake and go into their grand finale.
unfortunately for me though i woke up.
