I think it's degrading ... and it's sad that people see us that way. The dominican events we have here in Miami aren't really like that. Also with the whole Reggaeton crazyness going around people have kind of lost sight of what "real" Dominican music is .... what happened to the merengue, bachata, perico ripiao ... now it's all about Reggaeton. Don't get me wrong ... I really like Reggaeton but I think we should stick more to our roots when we have events like this ... yo no se pero to me that picture is such a bad representation of us.
I'm not dominicana, but I spent most of my summer down there studying.. and that's what so many of the clubs looked like.. and in no kind of sick way, that picture brought back some goooood memories. Just that feeling of being out on the floor, everybody all crowded together just moving to the music.
Of course there were the occasional people who perreando-ed a little toooo hard.. lol.. but still, man, I have only good associations with those clubs.
P.S. Is there some kind of dominican festival in Miami coming up in Feb.? Somebody mentioned it to me and I'd soooooo wanna go.. I'm in Pittsburgh so I'd get the plane ticket relatively soon... if anybody knows anything let me know. :) Thanks!
