Do you have to choose between the variants? I could see a way where the theme of adventure connects the old couple and Joe. Joe first, I guess, as you and your first bike go off in different directions, and then the old couple to show how adventure is exactly what you need from it.

Five minute time limit forces a certain economy of words and encourages a certain focus on theme. The way I see it, I can keep the other variant in reserve for another slam with a matching theme and see how it goes.

Sometimes I wonder if no matter how arbitrary the universe seems to be, sometimes, it acts as if it had purpose. Or maybe Joe just needed someone to show him the right door so he could walk through it.
