wherever I go, I shall have rice, garlic and a knife

Decades on from now, back when we first met, when we were young, unburdened, and looking for the lives that we wanted to live, arcanus and I would host these sprawling, crowded house parties. You know, I'm still meeting people who either heard about our parties or were there and somehow didn't meet some or all of the hosts.

I have to say that I've been paying the piper the last few years. I've had more friends and bands stay at my place than I've crashed outside of Boston. There's been a lot of drinking, late night cooking, and early morning cooking. So much fun to host.

One of my favorite memories from this past month is of misadventures in car towing, then having midnight scotch and cake, ending with a drive back into Cambridge as midnight cyclists returning from the Marathon ride rode past us on their way home. I like that we still have these moments.

I think the one thing I love more than the occasional request for Shelter Breakfast is having people tell me that they've embraced the "garlic fried rice for breakfast" gospel and just make it on their own after a memorable evening.

So simple and so good.
