I like you. I just hate -those- people.

I'm sitting at a hotel bar in LA sipping a Manhattan and idly scrolling through my phone for waxed canvas field jackets. It's just a nightcap to take the edge off a six hour road trip. There's a British couple next to me, well into the demolition of a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and the wife turns to me and asks, "what's that you're drinking ( Read more... )

man, you have stomach for bad arguments that I don't. did you end up seeing them again?

(I'm also curious about their affirming y'all's decision not to have children. I've had a couple conversations with a childfree friend here where we compare her lack of regret, firmly felt, with the regret I'm pretty certain I would feel if I'd made it to my late thirties / early forties with no kids. But sometimes it can be hard to talk to people about their decision not to have kids without either sounding smug about having kids or regretful that one did in fact have them.)

H and I went back to the hotel bar the following night for another nightcap, but the Brexiteers did not appear. The bartender looekd relieved.

As far as how that conversation went -- I recall that the way they put it was that you had to feel strongly about wanting kids. They're a substantial responsibility and we both agreed that you had to enthusiastically opt into that responsibility to do right by the kid. I thought that it was a great example of mutual empathy and respect for our choices, and therefore was an interesting contrast to how the rest of that conversation went, with glimpses of empathy and respect trying to claw their way through all of this faulty programming.

Hi!

I know you haven't posted to LiveJournal in a while, so you probably haven't logged in to see the new Terms of Service.

http://www.livejournal.com/legal/tos-en.bml

They did not send out an e-mail. They gave no notice, thus denying people the opportunity to back up their data before this went into effect.

By some technical fluke, I seem to be logged in at the moment without having accepted the new ToS, so I am taking this opportunity to let friends who haven't logged in know about it before they do so. I figure if you have the option selected to have LJ e-mail you when you receive a new comment, you'll see this.

I hope all is well with you.
